I don’t get up on Twitter as much as I used to.  While it has tremedous utility and marketing usage, its a potential productivity black whole.  Yet for celebrities, its still one of the most effective ways for them to communicate with their fans, at least when they show some discretion.  But without any structure, the microblogging platform has tended to skew more towards the instant messenger version of the bathroom stall than a useful communication tool.  In that vain, John Legend’s hairline recently popped up as a trending topic or a frequent conversation.  Apparently some folks out there in the Twitterverse feel he’s

@johnlegend: “Btw, my hairline has been the same since I was a kid. Can’t believe some people are obsessing about it now. I’ve been famous for 6 yrs now“

@johnlegend: And to the haters, I’m still smarter, more talented, more successful and better looking than u. So fall back.

While his words seemed on point, Legend would later issue an apology as to save face among some of the fans he might have annoyed.

@johnlegend: Sorry y’all. Couldn’t believe my hairline was a trending topic. Get a life!

@johnlegend: And to the rest of y’all, I love you and thanks for the support. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming….

@johnlegend: “My lesson: don’t be distracted by nonsense and focus on what matters,” he wrote. “I shouldn’t have stooped. We all live and learn. Back to songwriting.”

I know it must be hard at times being a celebrity and having everyone “stalk yo whole life” (to steal a term from the Jersey Shore kids.)  But at the end of the day, the paper and the fame is something they wanted and there’s a price for everything.
