Lauryn Hill Says “Its Just Time” To Start Making Music Again
SOUND OFF: Do you think Ms. Lauryn can rekindle that flame that made us all love her in the 90′s?

Ever since Lauryn Hill fell off the scene following her Grammy-winning solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” many critics have fashioned her a weirdo and perhaps the victim of some emotional distress or nervous breakdown. Naturally such criticism is unfair. Despite how she might appear to the public eye via the at times vicious and manipulative media, she is still an individual and reserves the RIGHT to record whatever…whenever. I think we as fans of her music become jaded and spoiled perhaps taking for granted her music when it was here.
Well it looks like she’s coming back. In a very, very rare interview with National Public Radio’s Zoe Chace, the artist explains the reasons for her hiatus.
“There were a number of different reasons,” she explains. “But partly, the support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it.”
Holding no punches, like so many others before her, Hill in part blames the music industry for not supporting her enough.
“Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society,” she said. “And it’s important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected.”
Hill says raising children with her man, Rohan Marley, as well has been a major priority for her over the last ten years.
“I don’t know if you know this, but I have five children. The youngest is 2 now, so she’s old enough that I can leave her for a period of time and know she’s going to be okay.”
“I think it’s just time,” she adds. “I’m starting to get excited again. Believe it or not, I think what people are attracted to about me, if anything, is my passion. People got exposed to my passion through music and song first…And I think that can be infectious.”
Lauryn Hill is scheduled to return to the stage this summer as the headliner of the Rock The Bells concert tour.

I can’t wait! Lauryn Hill is one of the best! I’ve been a fan ever since I first heard her sing “killing me softly”. I think she’ll have a great comeback, it’ll be something familiar because its her but at the same time it’ll be something so new and refreshing to hear. I’m glad for her, excited to see what unfolds…..
What music lover wouldn’t want Ms. Lauren back in the game, i hope though she doesn’t try to copy “The miseducation of Lauryn Hill” its a classic and shouldn’t be touched… i heard she will have a free concert in brooklyn @ the end of July…
Yeah?! I gotta keep my eyes out for that one.
Decades have their sounds. Think about it, if you listen to music enough (and are old enough), you can hear a song and identify the decade it was recorded in (for the most part). Lauryn Hill had a unique sound that personified that era. “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” is a classic, iconic album, up there with “Thriller,” “Songs in the Key of Life,” “What’s Going On?, and “That’s the Way of the World,” just to name a few. Few artists can duplicate that kind of success. I hope she can put her growth into her music, and still make it funky.
wow you put her in the Thriller/ What’s going on Category? Tough sledding. That was an album for the hall of fame tho.
Datswhatimsayin! your generation often identifies with her, Biggie and Tupac, MJ Blige, because their sound was that time’s sound. So, their work was as big as the others I mentioned.
It’s funny, put on Mary J’s real love track from what’s the 411 and I am in my time machine going back to my college days!!!
Many people have wanted her back for a long time, and it will be a dream come true. She will be fine because she will have the best people around her ready to capitalize on this rare oppurtunity.
That’s what music needs right now, artists!!!! No, No, I mean real artists. I find muthafucka’s like to use that word too freely, for example I don’t think Waka Flacka Flame and think great artist. I reserve that word for people like Maxwell, Sade, Prince, just to name a few.
Only “artists” can produce timeless music, where you press play and every single track is amazing from beginning to end, and Miss Hill has already proved that to us.
She touches on a point that I’ve always made about Hip-Hop in particular, these artists especially since the 50 cent mixtape craze are under pressure to be out ALL THE TIME! There’s no way you can make good music w/o taking a step back you need to have new experiences grow a bit find new things to speak on expand ya mind. This is why an artists comes out blows up and every album after the first is full of ghostwriters they’re so busy “getting dough” they dont have time to make music. That’s why you’re favorite artists first album is usually ur favorite cause that one was years in the making and real experiences and feelings. If anyone could make a comeback Lauryn can she’s right whatever folks think about her once she starts singing or rapping all that goes out the window we fall right back in love w/ LBoogie!
