Phil Jackson Leaning Towards Retirement

Posted by 4PL

will he be remembered as the greatest coach ever

philjackson.jpg

Sources are reporting that Phil “Zen Master” Jackson is leaning towards retiring after winning his 11th NBA championship last week w/Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers. This comes as a surprise to his staff and team who were certain that the possibility of a 3peat would be enough to bring Jackson back. Jackson has had some health issues in the past and his current health status is a huge factor in this decision. Jackson has 11 championship 6 w/the Chicago Bulls and 5 w/the Lakers. This run includes 3 3peats, and multiple coach of the year awards. The nation sounded off on whether or not Kobe Bryant was the best player W/this impressive statline is the Zen Master the best coach ever, I’m talking in sports period Sound Off Nation. I think that it is safe to say that he will be remembered as the greatest ever. He has won chips wherever he has been, and he made the greatest player that ever played the game greater. He also has taken Shaq and Kobe to the next level with the way that he leads a team. Without Phil, none of the players would probably have been as successful as they are today (ring wise). I am sure if he coached Lebron, he could do the same for him. Mike, Shaq, or Kobe had rings before Phil Jackson. He should be considered one of the experts on Leadership, and write books on the subject.

    • jamesgladden says:

Typo, they had no rings before Phil Jackson. My bad.

      • 4PL says:

People would also say w/o those players you mentioned Phil wouldn’t be as great a coach.

          No arguments here big pimpin…

        • dewayne says:

yeah, but you cant make that argument because we will never know. all we know is nobody had rings before they found each other. mike 7 years before rings, shaq-6 years before ring, kobe-5 years before ring. none of the other coaches had successs bringin rings 4 those dudes, that alone makes him the greatest. if you get those kind of egos to come together and still do it after 15 years come on son! since 1991 which is almost 20 years ago phil has been in the finals 13 of those 20 and was retired for another 2 and not mention jordans’ retirement for 2 years. so phil could have been in 17 finals in 19 years that is stupid!

          When ur right ur right

Hey, I’ve coached (middle school, lol) and when I had kids that could play, we won. When I didn’t have kids that could play, we lost. I believe the same thing applies on all levels. In the NBA, everyone can play, but even there, there are different levels and Jordan and Pippen and Kobe and Shaq were on a different level from their contemporaries. Thus, the success of their teams…that was my Zen moment, lol!

      Big Pimpin!

All I am saying is that those players had coaches before Phil, and those coaches did’t bring what Phil brought to the table (as far as capitalizing on the talent around them). Those NBA coaches who had this talent before Phil did not know what to do with them.

Here’s the real? Name a coach that’s better?

  4. skinnygirluver says:

He will be remembered as one of the greatest coaches ever. Red and Phil are all time winners but more importantly they revolutionized the game. The Celtics Fast Break, and The Triangle are part of NBA history and has changed the game. All-time players and coaches change the game, that’s another reason why I don’t give Kobe any all-time status because MJ changed the game, Kobe is just following.

  5. Ro says:

Well put “skinnygirlluver”. Red,Phil, MJ, Magic, Bird, where all Game changers. That why you we can call them the All-time greatest. I think the next game changer is LeBron James.(if he wins). If Phil Jackson where to coach him I think we would get the same results.

  6. Jaypream says:

It’s hard to argue about that when he has more rings than fingers. You can always say he had the best players, but those same players were still the best when he wasn’t coaching them and they didn’t win until he came along.

  7. 4PL says:

The Question is though is he the best coach in sports ever?

    • jamesgladden says:

I don’t think that we can say in all of sports because we don’t know if he would be as successful coaching other sports. He coaches the game that he played (which he won a ring as a player @dewayne, so he had a ring before he met any of them). All we know is that he knows what it takes to make basketball players winners. Now he could establish a general leardership blue print that could be used in any sport, organization, etc. Coaches in other sports could use his coaching philosophy.

      • dewayne says:

thats why i said until they met each other. phil only had one ring, and that was as a player, which may be the reason he was able to get those bulls to play hard for him even though he was a d-league coach.
