Sound Off:Can Kobe be Considered Greatest Player Ever

Posted by 4PL

He’s one ring shy of Mike and can have his second 3peat w/Phil next year is Kobe the new Mike or even better?

kobemvp.jpg

A real man can admit when he was wrong, and I was wrong for having the audacity to think the Boston Celtics could beat LA Lakers in a game seven on their home court. Last night Kobe “Black Mamba” Bryant secured his 5th NBA title and Phil Jackson’s 11th when they beat the Boston Celtics in game 79-83. This was an exciting defensive battle where every shot on both sides were contested and every free throw counted. After Holding the lead for 3 quarters the Celtics lost their grip when Derek Fisher hit a 3 point field goal to tie the game around the 6 minute mark in the 4th qtr and the Lakers never look back Kobe also secured his second consecutive finals MVP award and cemented his place in the conversation of the greatest players of all time. He already has 5 rings  season and multiple finals mvps, multiple All Star MVP’s, Gold Medals and could possibly win 2 or 3 more chipsW/the avid  basketball fans here on Highbrid Nation we’re interested in what you think so SOUND OFF nation is Kobe The Greatest Player EVER! (Game Blouses!)

Now that the finals are over ain’t nothing else to do for the summer you might as well follow me @4pl

i think he could be, stat-wise he is consistently great and he has led the Lakers to 5 championships, if he is not the greatest he is a close second

  2. Drae says:

I don’t think you can take a player from each ERA of basketball and say if he was the best ever. There are too many players from Bill Russel, Wilt, Oscar Robertson,Kareem, Magic Johnson, MJ, Kobe and LeBron will probably be mentioned but he has work to do. At this point Kobe deserves to mention on this subject as much as the other guys mentioned above and probably more so if you look at the talent in the league that he has competed aginst night in and night out. Weather the basketball world admit it or not many say he was dependent on Shaq; now we see this guy is a true winner. I am not going to say if he is the best ever nor will I compare him to MJ, but one thing for sure is you cannot ignore this guy as one of the all time greats to ever srep on the floor!

  3. dewayne says:

im goin to say this as a basketball realist, jordan fans just read carefully. skill wise kobe is the best ever! “i said skill wise”. he can do things that jordan couldnt. for example jordan couldnt go left but you couldnt stop him from goin right. you cant stop kobe from goin either way. kobe also put up the 81. 81 is 81 enuff said. jordan didnt have to face zones, so the best 1 on 1 player got to play 1 on 1. now wit all this being said jordan is the best because he never lost a finals series and kobe has 2 on his. if magic wouldnt have lost 4 out of 9 then he would be #1 no questions asked.

    • dewayne says:

so it goes mj, magic, kobe, bird, kareem, bill russel, karl malone, hakeem, tim duncan, and charles barkley is the top 10. now we only talkin skills and #s not rings!

      • auchamp22 says:

nice list… i’d take tim duncan and Malone out, put in Shaq and Wilt…

      • Tommy says:

The list goes as follows…M.J., Magic, Kobe, Bill Russell, Wilt Kareem, Oscar, Jerry, Larry…your top ten!!!
        Honorable Mention…Timmy D, Dr. J, Karl Malone, Shaq, Stockton,Hondo,Bob Cousy, J Kidd
I want to include Steve Nash but I believe he is a product of his system and the media.(The media wanted anybody at that time except for Kobe to win a MVP. In fact Kobe should have at the least 3 MVP’s maybe 4 and possibly 5.)I do not include Lebron or D Wade…yet because that have to do more… My basis for not including LBJ and D-Wade…example 1…Grant Hill was on his way to be an all-time great until injury…same with T-MAC! I am saying they both could have injury for the next years and therefore you could not put them in the all-time great list!

      I AGREE!!!

Can Kobe be Considered the Greastest Player ever??! No, No and hell no. This is starting to get waaaaay out of hand with Kobe Bryant. The player he is now and has been for the past 3-5 years is not the player he has always been but people somehow think that it is. Rings help you get into the conversation but winning rings is still a TEAM thing. I could write a book on why people need to calm down on Kobe but I won’t. I’ll just stick to the simplest thing and that’s the media. In order for sports talk radio and everyone else to keep those phone lines ringing and get people talking they have to say outrageous things and create crazy debates. Jordan is the best I’ve ever seen by far, NOT EVEN CLOSE. No one has ever put the entire team on their backs and come through in the 4 period time after time after time. I don’t talk about players that our not in my era but to say Kobe is up there with MJ because of rings is basketball blasphemy, especially knowing that the Bulls could’ve won 8-10 rings if MJ doesn’t retire and if management doesn’t blow up the team after ’98.

    • dewayne says:

hakeem put a team on his back. you cant even name 4 other players from that 94 team that beat the knicks. all the stuff we used to say about kobe, selfish, ball hog ,never will win, we said the same thing about mj just remember that. mj just looked so fly during his selfish years. if mj didnt look so fly while playin the game idk if the impact would be the same. what if his game was ugly like luol deng but had the same #s would the impact be the same?

    • 4PL says:

Luver u have some valid points but ur almost didmissing Kobe’s accomplishments. Does Jordan win any ring w/out Pippen, w/o Rodman, w/o Kuckoch w/o Steve Kerr hitting the game winning shot? Everybody needs help to get to the top but someone is still the General the leader

      • skinnygirluver says:

Team wins rings. I’m not dismissing Kobe’s accomplishments, his team won rings, Jordan didn’t win rings on his own either but Jordan was the main guy for ALL the rings. I’m sure that in another 5 years I’ll be hearing how Kobe is the best player and I’m cool with that because those fans will probably not even remember MJ playing in his prime, but I’m not trying to hear that Kobe is anything close to MJ from people who have seen Jordan play. Kobe was a Jordan clone, wannabe until he found his own game a few years back. Also, Jordan was a better athlete and that’s why Lebron is getting MVP’s now because he’s a better athlete then Kobe. I’m not a Kobe hater by any stretch of the imagination but when you start talking about the best of the best then I have to be objective.

        • E.L.Diaz says:

Great points too! I agree…I’m a Knicks fan, so I never particularly liked Jordan. However, I have to give credit when it’s due….Many people get caught up in Jordan’s, Kobe’s Lebron’s, Magic’s athletic ability, grace and other intangibles and seem to forget what you just pointed out: it’s a team’s game! you need five guys on the floor at all times. You need 10 guys on a team to play an 82 game season and then four playoff series…Having one guy who is head and shoulders above the rest in talent makes the difference…when you already have a pretty good team…Go back to, I dunno, the 70′s and check out the rosters and stats of the NBA champions. You will find 1-2 great players, 3-4 very good players, and 3-4 good role players….

  5. auchamp22 says:

    Top 5 player dead or alive….. 2nd best Laker… 2nd best closer…. offensive skills #1

  6. temps says:

Note Jordan never lost a Finals. Holds career best in the NBA for: highest reg season ppg and playoff ppg. This is during an era when many other greats players played. Kobe doesnt have as many contemporaries in the league as MJ. The Dream, Miller, Ewing, Barkely et al He has 5 mvp’s and all 6 Finals MVP.

Plus look at his role players none of em were good coming to the Bulls except Rodman. Kukoc was ok coming over but nothing great but Odam was established and so was Artest (so he and Rodman cancel themselves out). But really D Fish vs BJ Armstrong, advantage Fish, Pippen of course outshines above all wingman but Kobe woulndt have won the 1st 3 without a big man and wouldnt have gotten the last two without Gasol but MJ had Bill Cartwright and Bill Winnington and Horace Grant. In an era of big man Jordan had none and yet won without em. Kobe in an era of no real big man needed the games best two to win. So to me the advantage is Jordan.

You can compare Kobe and Jordan because their era’s were within one another but yea the Big O and nem well it was a different game back then.

  7. Slim says:

Kobe is a cry baby chump!!! He got some b-ball skills but I just don’t like his punk a**…I’m a JORDAN fan all the way…Tar-Heel to the Bulls to the Wizards…Kobe should bow down to His Airness period point blank…Jordan did his thing with class and style that could never be rivaled…

  8. RUTHLESSNYC says:

He will be just not yet Kobes stats are on the rise fast. Yeah he is a snitch and people hate that about him and call him a cry baby but Jordan was a fucking big cry baby himself lets not forget. Basketball then and now is so different

    • 4PL says:

Great Points Ruthless. When I did the post still high of the win I completely forgot how much people like Kobe’s game but hate Kobe. It’ll probably 4ever keep him out the top spot. The other thing you have to remember too is that Kobe has a good 3-5yrs left in him, and if I had to bet on him I would say @least 1 more chip maybe 2.

  9. Drew Dastardly says:

Were talkin basketball not public relations. I hate the Lakers but Kobe has got to be the best. Like Mike he is unguardable, his only comp is his self. The Zone D is a real good point by dewayne.

  10. B.E.B. says:

I don’t think he can be considered the best player ever because to do that you have to outdo what the best players have done throughout NBA history. MJ had 2 3-peats, and I didn’t even know Bill Russel won 11 championships! Thats bananas! Kobe will be in the hall of fame but to be considered the best player ever…..NO.

  11. suny says:

I strongly recommend __SeekingUniform.com__ to you where I just found my air force boyfriend! You know it is a great place to meet military men and beautiful women. What’s kind of relationship do you want?

  12. Jaypream says:

Kobe will never be considered the best ever because everything he’s doing has been done already, and done better by Jordan. His game is pretty much a carbon copy of Mike’s. But it also goes deeper than that. MJ was not only a great player, but he was also a great brand. He came along just as Nike was on the come up and they marketed him perfectly, creating an image of Jordan that has endured even after his retirement. We remember the bald head, the tongue out, etc, just as much as we remember the stats and the rings. What do we have of Kobe: a rape case, arrogance, and tales of snitching. Jordan was just as arrogant and flawed as Kobe but his marketing overshadowed that and helped secure his spot as the best ever. When Kobe retires he just might have more rings than Mike but his lack of image will keep him out the top spot.

  15. TheBolB says:

    KOBE IS THE BEST PLAYER…

  16. cadillachustla@yahoo.com says:

This is a good topic.I come from the Jordan era so to me Kobe aint shit compared to Mike. No, doubt the boy is a beast on the court but Mike had that gentleman’s presence off the court as well. In my personal opinion I think every generation has its best player. My pops was a big Dr. “J” fan and will tell you in a minute Jordan was a carbon copy of him! His dad(my grandfather)was a huge Oscar Robinson fan and will tell you if it wasn’t for Oscar there would by no Dr J so on and so forth.

In my opinion if Jordan and Kobe played 1 on 1 at the prime of both of their careers I would bet on Jordan whoopin Kobe’s ass hands down!!!

  17. dewayne says:

we got it all wrong. we shouldnt be asking if kobe is better than mj, but can we talk about them in the same conversation. one thing is for sure if you put kobe and mj in a gym together the r mirror images of each other. they are even skill wise! not playin one on one just skill for skill, and kobe might be a little better because of the left hand. but jordans will to win seperates them thats it. there is no way jordan would have lost 2 finals series. but if you r goin on skills only then they r 1a and 1b in any order

  20. Pete says:

Kobe is the best! Skill for skill Kobe is the best. I saw a 19 yr old Kobe take it to Mike. Some Kobe now would welcome a challenge from Mike. Hate Kobe all you want but he is the man. Move over Micheal Kobe is the man! 7 titles?!

  21. teedog says:

    Okay Sports Fans,

Kobe’s skill and work ethic are totally unmatched by anyone ever. Jordan is close to Kobe in that department, not the other way around. Jordan has outdone Kobe stats wise and don’t forget the shoes (Air Jordan’s). Which I believe has allot to do with his legacy as well.

For those who discredit Kobe above, they are also discrediting Mike. Titles are won by teams–that’s right, Mike had Pippen, Rodman, Horace Grant, a host of three point shooters,
Magic had kareem, worthy, Bird had Mchale, Parish, DJ, Ainge. Isaih had Dumars, Rodman, and the other BAD Boys.

Come on folks, Champions all have one thing in common. One awesome player who is the creme of the crop that rises to the occasion. Russell,
Wilt, Doc, West, Oscar, Jordan, Magic, Bird, Kobe, Shaq, kareem, Duncan could not win without a team.

Now of all those the two that rise to the absolute top for me are jordan and kobe. That’s as far as over-all game, intensity, killer instinct etc. Kobe is chasing down Mike’s accomplishments and has already done some that mike can’t match anyway, just as he can’t match some of mike’s.

I know one thing throughout all of this though.
There is only one who has been vilanized and hated, surpressed and belittled and still stood up to the challenge and proved everyone wrong, time and time again. Unlike LeBron, who runs with his tail tucked and Vinsanity and T Mac who never reached their potential.

p.s. This one is continuing to give all the youngsters and veterans the Business. That is in my opinion what separates him from Mike. Mike may be more accomplished right now, but he is more loved by adoring fans, which blinds them from the fact that the Mamba is still striking with deadly venom, and is hell bent on tracking down and surpassing the GOAT before he retires.

Let’s give him a hand folks, for his tenacity and taking the game/work ethic and never say die attitude to another level while being hated on and contested so feverishly by the rest of the competition in the league.

P.s. p.s. (Who is the man) that can cause LeBron to join forces with Wade and Bosh.
If it wasn’t KOBE, I would say John Shaft!!!
