FACE THE NATION: Ca$h

Posted by Juan

Part 1 in the series where we profile the Highbrid Nation. Meet the faces behind the comments

About a week ago we reached a milestone when I logged my 3000th post on Highbrid Nation.  And while on the surface it was a personal accomplishment, in truth it was one that the entire Nation should be proud of.  Unlike most other blogs and online communities, the Highbrid Nation is just that we are one Nation.  While we address a wide range of topic from politics to sports to the business world to the more than occasional Fat Back we are collection of very different individuals with varying viewpoints drawn together by a single common thread which is hip hop.

And while I’ve hoped I’ve pushed you to expand your philosophical horizons, I too have broadened my own.  In doing so, I believe I have shared a great deal of who I am as a blogger, a thinker, a fan, a critic and a professional.  But what about you?  Along the way we’ve met so many personalities that have contributed to our comment boards from the originals under the aliases of lyphe, gphi, skinnygirluver, Malcolm, ThebolB and the original UrbanThought to some of the relative newcomers like auchamp22, and E.L. Diaz.

So I wanted to take the occasional timeout in a feature we’ll call “Face the Nation” to talk about YOU!  Who are you?  Where are you from and what’s your story.  By doing so I hope it’ll bring us just a little bit closer as a family.  One Nation.

First up…you know him as Ca$h.  One of the most colorful members of the Nation and often at the center of our most heated debates, I had the opportunity to interview Ca$h or Chris Ca$h last week.  Here’s a breakdown.

Ca$h

THE MAN

Name: Cris Denmon (A self described “Neo-Hippie”)
Age: 20 Something
Hometown: Dallas, TX – Oak Cliff (The Good Side)
Twitter: @criscash2fly4tv

Super Mario Bros., Madden, Zelda, Metroid, MegaMan, Streets of Rage, Kid Chameleon.
Memorable Quote: “Passion drives me. Things i Love. Things i Want. Serenity Balances Me. Things i Need. Things that Need Me. i’m Not perfect but i’m Secure. to me that’s Perfection in Itself.”

THE MUSIC

Music Website:  www.theamazingamateurs.com or twiturm.com/criscash2fly4tv

Inspiration: Science, Video Games and Girls

“Cash as an Artist evolved into sort of a Hip Hop Hero, Time Traveller…Mad Scientist making my Own Rules. Throwing away the proverbial Box…i’m kinda like a Musical Chameleon”

“i have no Shape. like Liquid Metal or Water. i take on the shape of the Container, which in this case would be the Track i’m recording on. i let the beat tell me where to go….”

Influences: Bootsy Collins, Jimi Hendrix , James Brown, David Ruffin, OutKast, Mystikal, Tela, Pimp-C, 8Ball & MJG, Zapp n Roger, Morris Day, Michael Jackson and Prince

THE PHILOSOPHY

Thoughts On Lil Wayne: I’m not a Fan as you all might think.

i’m a fellow craftsman…Being the youngest of his circle he was sorta like chosen like Michael Jackson he too was he youngest and most talented of his circle. his flow began regional but became national. drugs n drugs n babymamaz galore aside. the man make good music and also SOME bad music. [H]e’s human. but as far a talent I find FEW in the art that come close.

You can’t hear someone say wayne is the Best then pick up the Carter III. His metaphors can be cloudy but once you’ve said EVERYTHING you have to speak it in another language. Instead of sayin i got a white girl in my black BMW…Wayne would say “i’m in a pepper beamer wit a salt-shaker”…lol its genius in its simplicity.  [He has] work ethic like Tupac. but will experiment i can relate. i understand wayne more than i agree with him.

One artist He’d bring back from the dead: Pimp C.

“Pimp C was a pioneer of Texas “Sound” and “Swag”. Heavy full Drawbar organs funky bass lines laid back mack movie type hooks, he made being from Texas cool FIRST…we NEED some things to be adressed and when the Pimp spoke everyone listened.”

Top 10 Things You Hate About Hip Hop Today:
10. most of the Beats. No Soul.
9. The Lack of Live Stage Presence… all that SWAG disappears on stage
8. Misuse of said Word ” Swag”
7. the sounds like formula. ” yeah this my follow up hit it SOUND JUST LIKE…(the first single)
6. Plies
5.Gucci Mane
4. Fruity Loops (Music Beatmaking Program)
3. The Term Alternative Hip-Hop “since when was creativity an Alternative?”
2. The idea that you have to be rich or powerful to gain attention from the opposite sex.

“I still pull chicks in my ’93 lincoln town car with the detachable grill and one window that works…lol.  Its all about KOS (knowledge of self).  Let him or her know the content of your character and the scope of your mind, then you’ll win. all these dopeboys ex-girlfriends love my beautiful mind”

Cash: 1. Soulja Boy

Ca$h

THE STYLE

Artist or celebrity that best exemplifies what you think is fly: Pharell

“He can go from subdued white tee and basics to looking like his closet attacked him. He’s really not trendy. but comfortable. Matching is overrated. Sometimes my shirt might not match the kicks i wanted to wear today. This to me is fly…Not being bound by RULES of fashion [instead] making new ones.”
