Jay-Z’s ‘Empire’ Replaces Sinatra As ‘Official’ New York Theme Song
NYRA dubs Hov’s “Empire State of Mind” the New York theme song replacing Sinatra’s at the Belmont Stakes

If you thought Jay-Z & Alicia Keys‘ “Empire State of Mind” had its run into the ground well as Frank Sinatra once said, “The Best is Yet to Come.” While the song continues to embed its way into the minds of less Hip Hop savvy New Yorkers the New York Racing Association (NYRA) replaced Sinatra’s classic hit “New York, New York” with Hov’s hip new anthem at the 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes this past Saturday. While the Sinatra track has been a tradition at the opening of the final leg of horse racing’s triple crown since ‘97 when it replaced “Sidewalks of New York”The NYRA which has struggled in recent years chose to change things up a bit.
Accompanying the National anthem, the song was covered by teen singer Jasmine Villegasas. Officials describe the track as the “quintessential 21st century theme song for New York City.”
I guess we do have to give Jigga credit for having the foresight to say in his lyrics that he’s the “New Frank Sinatra”. Chalk another one up for Hov.

Actually more cred should go to A.Keys than Jay after all it was her song, but Jigga did take it to another level.
I was thinking the same thing as I wrote the post. It wouldn’t have gotten the same burn without his stamp tho.
Jay Z seems to have the “Midas Touch”. I need him to touch a few socks and see if it turns certifiable gold.
Alicia was good but without Jay Z it would be another song. Oh yeah like the one she has on her album “Empire State Broken Down version”. i don’t hear anyone playing that version.
Jay Z said it best his song Takeover ” You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song”. Just one touch – GOLD!!!
that takeova got him eithered
