Jacki-O Spits Venom at DJ Khaled for Not Supporting Miami Acts

Posted by Juan

Has the Hip Hop friendly south turned the tides?

Jacki-O
@xxlstaff @jackioworld @therealdjkhaled
Miami rapper Jacki-O who more often than not makes waves in the industry for how she looks than how she sounds is looking at a new tactic to sell copies of her upcoming project, “Griselda Blanco.”  Borrowing a page out the 50 Cent handbook, (no not his weightloss program) she’s looking to start beef.  In a recent interview with XXLMag.com, she’s very critical of Miami based DJ’s particularly the recognized Don, DJ Khaled for their lack of support for local acts.

I have issues when it comes to DJs that take up space in my city that… you have a job playing records on the airwaves, and yet you playing the same artists over and over and over again? I have no beef with the artists that he’s playing, and with all due respect to them and their craft, I would love for them to get airplay, but what about the [other] people that’s in the city? If you reppin’ this city, then rep the city! Don’t hold beefs or grudges with people just because you’re friends with my ex-label-mates… that’s crazy! If you hear a record that’s poppin’ in the streets and it’s poppin’ in the clubs-play it on the station! I have a problem when the DJ feel like he more powerful than the artist and I think that’s the stance that he takes when it come to this music and it’s just ridiculous, so I do have a problem with him. It’s not just me, but a lot of people do. Maybe they think it and don’t say it but I choose to say it because I feel like it’s an injustice and it’s not right and it’s not fair, so I’m callin’ [Khaled] out on it… On air, he not even sayin’ the hoods right, he saying the hoods wrong! His syllables is wrong when he shoutin’ out the cities, and the hoods… it’s crazy [you can tell that] he not from Miami… We accepted you in our city and you were chosen to rep our city and then you get in office and you flip the script, that’s crazy!

Later in the interview, Jacki-O addresses certain rumors, the current state of females in hip-hop, her thoughts in Nicki Minja, past beefs and more.

I find two things intersting here.  First, I think its kind of limiting for Jacki-O to consider herself LOCAL?  I’m not saying she’s a Grammy nominated artist or anything but I’ve heard of her.  I know she’s from Miami and all but being from New York I know there are New York artists and then there are Artists….From New York.  There’s a big difference.  So for Jax to be crying foul is only showing herslf to be smaller than perhaps she truely is.

Second, this is an interesting dynamic for the south and perhaps a paradigm shift if indeed it is true.  One of the main reasons the south has flourished over the past decade is because of the support its artists have been given by fans and DJ’s.  Up north, artists have struggled for years over every spin and every dime because of the lack of support.  Everyone in New York feels their a rapper or producer so why support another artist as a fan?  This has opened the door for The South to flourish.  With the overwhelming support, fanbase and love that some southern artist, although less talented, have been shown they’ve been able to ascend to the spotlight.

I’m guessing however, that as the culture has progressed in Miami and places like Atlanta, they’ve developed the behavior of their counterparts up North.  It leads you to think…where is he next Hip Hop hot bed going to develop.  My vote is Asia.

    Being from Miami myself, and living in the midwest, it’s hard for me to believe Jacki-O because when I visit Miami I hear all kinds of (local) music I NEVER hear in the midwest. It’s all perception to me.

    People got understand this is the music business, record companies invest money into artists, including outlets like radio stations for artist to get played, and they want a return on their investment. If you aint gettin played on the radio be mad at ya label for not investing, be mad at your management for not putting pressure on the label to invest and be mad at urself for not putting out a product thats worth investing in. Furthermore when people make statements like “Thats not fair” it lets me know their clowns. Life aint fair so dont complain about it step ya game up or switch teams or get out completely. As my man Star used to say “Feed ya self or off ya self” Simple minded bastards

  6. joebloe says:
