[RANT] What’s Up w/ Wyclef Asking Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie To Adopt A Haitian?

Posted by Juan

Why is Clef enabling the white jesus stereotype. Enough with that already.

Wyclef Jean has called upon his close friends and serial adopters Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to adopt a Haitian kid.  Following the devastating earthquake earlier this year the two visited Haiti to help out and witness first hand the devastation, (of course under the watch of camera to document their humanitarianism.)

“Brad and Angie, please adopt a child from Haiti!” Jean said according to the AP. “I have so many celebrity friends who have really supported this cause and who continue to support this cause. Our job is to help those little kids, to give them a chance. If we give them a chance they’ll have a better tomorrow.”

I know we’ve broached the subject before but I want to address it again.  I think while I firmly believe the likes of Jolie and Pitt adopt these foreign children out of the goodness of their heart that there’s something seriously wrong here.  Its almost as if they’re building a collection of colored children for the mantle piece.  Like I said I’m not going to knock them but I think its odd.

As far as Clef is concerned I’m very disapointed.  Regardless of what his relationship is with the two he’s gotta be more conscious of the perception.  If they do it, why does it have to be a public ordeal.  By it being able to be reported by illustrious media outlets like Highbrid Nation, it creates the percpetion that the poor little haitian children need white jesus in the form of these two very rich white actors to come and save them from themselves.

This is why Haiti even before the earthquake was in the dire state it was.  Although it was the first European colony to receive its emancipation it hasn’t progressed much beyond that because it has always been perceived as third world.  Act Third World, you get THIRD WORLD.  Its time for Haitian Americans specifically everywhere to step and take pride in their homeland do what needs to be done not only to get that country back up and running but where it can again be a functioning factor.  Enough with the white saviors.

I hope Jay-z and Beyonce adopt a white baby from England and name him Tyreke….

  2. E.L. Diaz says:

There are A LOT more average “regular” decent people adopting children from “third world countries” than there are “Celebrities.” How about appealing to them, Wy?
    good rant, Juan.

  3. jungle says:

Why not ask Jada and Will, Denzel, even Oprah to adopt. This is probably the most “House Niggerish” thing Wyclef could have done. Wyclef is no fool, he’ll promote Brad and Angelina adopting a Haitian child because he knows if they do it other white folks will follow suit, regardless of the impression it gives. It sends the message that if black folks can’t take care of each other then white people are going to have to do it. I applaud Brad and Angelina for helping the less fortunate but they act as though they are collecting objects…trust me, in a few months they’ll be adopting a child from India, then their collection should be complete, mark my words.

DING DING DING. It perpetuates further the stereotype that black people can’t take care of their own kids. Its not Brad and Angelina’s fault its our own.

True dat Juan, Wyclef is certainly doing a disservice to the black community. There is a problem in Hollywierd, notice how celebrities like to adopt visible minorities. What about children from Romania, Georgia, Eastern Block countries belonging to the former Soviet Union. Why not adopt from these places as well. Celebrities really need to evaluate their intentions because it looks suspect!!!!!

      • Juan says:

        very suspect.

If these two want to adopt children in such poverty and give them a better life I dont understand it upsets any of you. Do you really and truly believe these kids whould have had better life if brangelina did not adopt them. If you do You are ignorant beyond belief. Believe me I am minority from a third world country these kids are the lucky ones who have been given a better life. Dont bigrudge these kids their lives.

    • jungle says:

I think you have missed the point a little. I don’t think anyone has a real issue with them adopting children, it’s the belief that blacks can’t take care of their own, which Mr. Jean is helping perpetuate. This is not a Indiana Jones movie where the white man always comes to the rescue.

My wife is from India and she would love to adopt a child from India, would you feel that a white person would be more fit than someone from that culture……I would hope not.

      • auchamp22 says:

Yea i don’think anybody in the nation is against giving a kid from a third world country or any kid a better life… but why did wy have to ask these two, like there aren’t black and hispanic couples who are capble of doing so… I may sound like a civil rights speaker here but if we can’t call on our own people to make a difference and help each other, black president or not, we won’t make progress…. We will just continue to be puppets to white america, becasue all we can do is dunk a ball or catch a pass…
