[RANT] VH1 ‘Hip Hop Honors’ Salutes Hip Hop 2.0′s Characteristic Laziness
In lue of doing homework and selecting worthy honorees this year they call it a tie a give it up for 1/4 of the nation. Booooo

Stop Trying To Please Everyone And Make a choice!
@VH1 #HipHopHonors
While much of Hip Hop’s historical significance has been clouded by the latest youth movement with which its been entrusted, for six years VH1 and their annual Hip Hop Honors show has successfully memorialized the culture and the pioneers that built its foundation.
But this year, in honor of the laziness characteristic of the Hip Hop 2.0 generation, instead of selecting a forefather of this great but currently troubled culture, VH1 has chosen to immortalize an entire geographic region? VH1 Honors…The Dirty South? Are you serious?
Look, I get it. The Dirty South music infusion was influential, although some would argue for the worse, on the culture but that’s because the movement was spearheaded by a few visionary artists. Was VH1′s budget cut so much that they didn’t bother researching any true individuals to honor and instead said “lets call it a tie and give everyone an honorable mention ribbon.” That’s like your mom saying I can’t decide on a pair of baby shoes so I’m just going to bronze the entire baby wardrobe. Its a complete cop out.
You already had Luther “Luke” Campbell throwing a diva tantrum for not being recognized apart from his group, 2 Live Crew well you better believe he’s going to be pissed as the network forces him to share top billing with Timbaland, Jermaine Dupri, J Prince, Master P Organized Noize and a host of others. Oh and to pay musical homage, Bone Crusher, Bun B, Chamillionaire, Dem Franchize Boyz, DJ Drama, DJ Khaled, Flo Rida, Gucci Mane, Juvenile, Lil Jon, Pitbull, Plies, Rick Ross, Slim Thug, T-Pain, Trick Daddy, Trina and Ying Yang Twins will lend their musical talents.
The whole thing is a bad idea and for an institution such as the Hip Hop Honors albeit only in its infancy with 6 years under its belt, its a shame because this disaster will set them back to a point hopefully they’ll be able to recover from. So if you happen to catch it tell me how it goes because I can’t watch a train wreck you see happening from a mile a way. It airs on VH1 on Monday, June 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

I agree with you Juan, it is a cop out, there are legends of hip hop who haven’t even been recognized yet, what about LL, Busta, even Snoop,i would give them some love before Master P and Luke…
Preach.
Maybe before master P but not before Luke and the 2 Live Crew. The 2 live crew were trail blazer in the kind of music that they were doing and fight they had to go through with getting their album banned.
I live in ATL, but even I think that the way they are going about this is all wrong. I mean, if they wanted to pick some dudes from the south, OK fine. They could have went with LUKE since he’s been around since the 80′s. Or I would have even been fine with Outkast. I think Master P is a bit of a stretch since he’s only really be hitting since the MID-nineties. But am I the only person willing to admit that the south didn’t really start making NOISE until the LATE nineties??? Prior to that were were known primarily for booty-shake joints, freaknic and strip clubs…!!!
REAL TALK!
Plus don’t you feel gipped that you’re entire regions music significance VH1 is saying can be summed up in a 2 hour tribute. I think its weak and lazy at best.
dre (3stacks) told yall niggas the South had sumn to say a LONG TIME AGO… ahh fruition. is beautiful. the south dint start makin noise till the LATE ninetys ARE YOU SERIOUS???? the first kast dropped in 1993 geto boys a couple years b4 that…. ever heard of 8ball n MJG or UGK ….pleez. real talk my ass. u aint start payin attention till then.
I agree. The South has been relevant for quite some time. That’s why I’m angered that they can’t break out individual artists. Kool Herc got his own night, what Outkast can’t? Three 6 Mafia won an Academy Award? They can’t get their own night? No they’re grouped with the entire south and called dirty on top of it.
Feedburner is really very useful for syndicating feeds from other websites..`~
Gucci? FloRida? Get the f*ck outta here!! That’s the problem with mainstream America and their view on hip hop right there! If they had to do the whole “dirty south”(which I dont agree with it) we should be hearing the names of the O.G.s like the Geto Boys,Outkast,& Mystikal(just 2 name a few)? These were/are true hip hop artist who contributed to the culture with their talent and whos influence has open doors for wack muthafucka’s like Wacka Flacka, Dem Franchize Boys,Gucci,and OJ da juiceman with that Bullshit. But its not the O.G’s fault that America thinks that bullshit is Dirty South music cuz its not.
