VH1 Honoring Timbaland At Hip Hop Honors

Maybe too early?

I’ve always like VH1′s Hip Hop Honors. Its a show that’s all about hip hop’s new school showing respect to hip hop’s old school. Lately is has seemed like they have been running out of significant pioneers from the past to honor. Thus this year we are seeing Timbaland amongst the honorees. The theme for this year is the South and with Timbaland being from Virginia, he technically qualifies since it is on the other side of the Mason Dixon.

Timbaland has produced hits for himself as well as artists like Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Jay-Z, Gnarls Barkley, Missy Elliot, Justin Timbalake and Magoo so no one can deny what he’s done in the world of hip hop music but seeing as how he’s still pretty active, is it a bit too soon to honor him. Aren’t you supposed to get these types of ackolades once the bulk of your work is behind you?

Personally I’m thinking it’s a bit early for Timbo but maybe that is just a reflection of the fact that, like I said, there aren’t to many people left to honor. What do you guys think?

i think they shouldn’t have put so many classic people in one honorary show. Like the first 3 shows had almost everyone that paved the way that people know of. they should have spread it out more, cause next thing you know they’ll be honoring lil wayne next year. YES its too soon for him. He has done a lot of things musically that should be honored and respected BUT its almost an insult to the true pioneers to music that were honored in the beginning. Its like they were getting them out of the way by cramming them all in a couple of shows and not thwey are trying to pull ratings from this generation by honoring TODAY’s most recognized people. IDK i just think it ALL was poorly done

I gotta co sign with Chelle 2 many were honored the 1st and 2nd year they should honor maybe 2 or 3 tops each show . We should still be honoring the East Coast artist the Pioneers period 4get what coast u reside in or represent just 2 school these New heads on how it went down.As 4 people 2 honor VH-1 still has not honored Dr.Dre or NWA as a group Jay Z, Em, or Luda but again might be 2 early 2 honor them I think u should hav 2 be in the Game 4 at least 15 years minumum.Maybe they will have a Mid west Honor and Honor Em Twista and Bone Thugs N Harmony.

i agree like krs-one said “rap on a whole isnt even 20 year old, 50 years down the line we could start this because………………..”

  3. dewayne says:

rap is about 30 years old now so its still not time to be honoring unless the artist is dead.

Imperfect as it is Honors is all we got…
I ain’t namin’ names, but there are folks in positions of power with this event who know better. It’s like an out of control train at this point and somebody needs to bring it down a bit.
