New Study Tries To Explain Why Twitter Caters To Black Folks and Hip Hop
Can Science explain why Black America is hooked on Tweeting?

@businessinsider
Results from a new Social Networking Study published by Business Insider indicates that Blacks make up 25% of all Twitter users easily making it the most active ethnic group on the micro-blogging platform. The accompanying article offered up some reasoning for why black folks have gravitated to the wildly popular social networking tool.
For one there is an overwhelming influx of black celebrities that have gravitated to Twitter as a tool to speak with fans from very active users like Diddy and Q-Tip. Even Oprah’s been getting in the mix and the black masses are following suit statistics show. Additionally the study pointed)to the (alarming) statistic that the average (median) age for black Americans is 30 years old, seven years younger than their white counterparts meaning that for Twitter, a large majority of Black folks fit in their target age range (25-34 year olds.)
The study also noted that Twitter users are more likely to use the mobile Internet on their phones than their non-tweeting counterparts. With Blacks and Hispanics statistic fiends for the Internet from mobile devices Twitter is right up (our) alley and explains our heavy usage.
As a user and borderline advocate of Twitter I’ll take the statistics a step forward and say personally the platform allows me to educate myself about and keep abreast of the topics I care about. The organized chaotic traffic jam of information affords users the opportunity to jump in and out of discussions infusing opinion, facts, sharing links all while maintaining a level of anonymity, covert accessibility and unassuming power all at your fingertips. In a nutshell it aggregates the conversations I would otherwise have at the water cooler, the gym, dinner table, barbershop and of course Highbrid Nation all 140 characters at a time.

Got it fam.
Twitter/texting language is shorthand/slang. Black people are the masters of language (another way of saying Black people love slang, lol). “Proper” English is a very confining, robotic language. We need a way to express ourselves in a more unique, individual, quicker way. That’s why we invented rap…..
I speak Spanish fluently. It’s my first language. And once I know someone speaks it, that is what I speak to them. It just rolls off the tongue better. I look at twitting the same way.
