With Jay-Z Now Departed, Dame Dash To Exhume ‘Roc-A-Fella’?
Now that Jay-Z is no longer with Def Jam, Dash believes he’s free to use the Roc brand. But is he?
Since his beef and eventual split with Jay-Z there have been more hard times to report for Damon Dash then good. However, in his most recent move, the former Roc-A-Fella founder is looking to take it back to where it all started…at the Roc. Since Jay-Z departed Def Jam for greener pastures with his Roc Nation joint venture with Live Nation, Damon Dash has decided to exhume Roc-A-Fella Records with his artists Curren$y’s newest album, ‘Pilot Talk.’
“I think we just having fun, really,” he told MTV. “[Curren$y] inspired me to dust off the chains. We brought ‘em back out for kicks, just ’cause we could. Then we was like, Fuck it, let’s put it through Roc-A-Fella. It was really more something he wanted to do. Basically, ’cause we havin’ such a good time, and the opportunity’s there, we was like, ‘Why not?’”
So how exactly is he able to once again assume the helm over at his former outfit?
“Def Jam or Universal bought the brand. I think the “beef” [with us and Jay-Z] was that Jay made it clear he didn’t want me or Biggs to be a part of it,” he explained. “That’s really where it was at. Now that he doesn’t work for Def Jam anymore, he doesn’t have the right to use the name. So there’s no reason for us not to use it. it’s there, and it’ a brand that’s not being used. So I was like, ‘I’ll take it.’ It always meant something to me.”
I’m no lawyer but something tells me Jigga’s already got a few high paid ones working on a strategy to block this movement. I would imagine there already is some type of non-compete or something involved in Jay’s exit strategy that would prevent this from actually happening but who knows. Lets see how it plays out. Given Jigga’s resources and Dash’s recent luck I would bet on the former coming out on top. Keep ya posted.

Is Curren$y retarded?
@left-eye… yo I was just about to ask the same question..LMAO
You know Weezy is gonna laugh his ass off when he hears about this! I bet we won’t ever see Pilot Talk hit stores…..LOL
Flop
Weezy?
You mean that little gremlin getting poked in the ass right now?
You are siding with one of the world’s worst rappers?
Ugh
Unless a new Fatback is shown today, I’m not coming back on Highbrid for another 24 hours after this dumb comment.
F*ckin weezy…
First of all I’m not siding with anyone. Get that straight Left-eye. I was just saying that “Weezy” is probably gonna laugh because CurrenSy was signed to Young Money and now he’s with somebody who will likely not be able to put his album out. Come on son, even your ass was questioning CurrenSy’s moves. Where’s caSh? I know homie has some input on this….
They are all garbage anyway. Rap sux these days anyway.
Break out the Kenny G!
weezy the truth. u the only dummy sayin he one of the worlds worst. smh. funny.
anyway this aint about weezy. currensy is capable of makin a few jams but nothin really relevant. ah well… gues the roc-a-pads dint work out for him…lol
rocapads…Holla!
regardless of who thinks who is whack…from the business standpoint, if the ceo resigns from his position to pursue other interests, then i’d say the company would then go to the remaining co-owners.
ca$h…”weezy the truth”
Sigh…i am hesitant to respond to this verbal diarrhea. Look child, Weezy is trash. So are any of those losers with the first name “Yung” or “Young” or “Lil”
If Weezy is the truth then I have no hope for Hip Hop and I will just listen to nothing but Reggae, Salsa, and Bachata.
I can’t believe you are riding weezy like this. He is the truth. UGH!
