SOUND OFF: Is Hollywood’s Obsession With Adopting Black Kids Okay?
Is it just Hollywoods newest fashion trend?
Sandra Bullock has just adopted a baby (actually it was 3 months ago but she’s been keeping it secret). The first thing that jumped out to most people when they seen her and the baby on People magazine is that the baby is black. Sandra Bullock isn’t the first white celebrity to adopt a child of another race. Madonna, Stephen Spielberg, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie have all been doing it for a while now. Quiet is as kept, John McCain even has a “black daughter” (she’s not really black but some South Asian decent). Seems like everyone is doing it.
For as long as these children of color have been getting adopted by white celebrities, it’s been rubbing some people the wrong way. People who feel children should grow up in the culture of whatever race they were born of. Thus black babies should only be placed with black families. The fact of the matter is that there really aren’t enough families willing to adopt for every kid to get placed with his or her own race. So should those kids not get placed in a home?
There are also those people also feel celebrities adopting these black babies is a trend not unlike buying a small dog and carrying it around in a bag. A living, breathing accessory if you will.

To the question posed: It doesn’t make a difference to me why they do it. Anyone who has love and a better life to offer a child, by all means, do it. What are the alternatives for these children? Growing up in orphanages? I commend everyone who has adopted a child.

I don’t see anything wrong with it at all. I hope this is not some trend , like a pet u buy as stated earlier . If they can love and care for a child regardless of color which is what we all suppose 2 do then gr8 . I know the children will be xxxposed 2 racism tho. Regardless if where they grow up in AmeriKKKa . From Hollyweird or Harlem it will racism happen.

Who cares. At least he was born here in this country. I hope this happens more often. Takes three months or more to adopt a child from this country. Most people go overseas and cut a check for their collection of kids. Madonna,Angelina, and the rest of those freaks.

this seems like a fashion, these people have no idea what theyre doing and itll be interesting to see what happens when the trend is over. but i think she may also had some inspiration from the blind side, well see if she pushes him towards football
i havent got a problem with white people adopting black badys but i dnt think these celebrities are doing it for the right reason seems more like a trend to me
Well said . Plus they don’t actually have a hand in raising them. They just get that Jamaican lady hell any of em to raise their child and the celebrity gets the credit. Once again just like the Ol days.I can’t w8 2 c how Angelina Jolie has to do her hair oops she aint touching her like that.

i think Sandra is in the right if she genuinely cares bout the baby if it were me shit i’d be overjoyed lol give me to some rich white lady but the fact of the matter is she needs to spend plenty of time in with her own race 2 and her mom-of course shes a celebrity she should be able to figure this out-needs to be able to find someone to do this babies hair i was adopted by white people to but they it turnt out to be a terrible abusive relationship with people that seemed to have know understanding of little kid and never knew how to take care of my hair the result me being placed in foster care i hope this will not be the same result for this baby
