Was M.I.A.’s Recently Banned ‘Born Free’ Music Video Misundertood?
Music video forces viewers to think through the mix of violence, genocide and military opression

YouTube recently banned M.I.A.’s new music video “Born Free” after it was flagged by users as promoting ethnic cleansing and violence and torture. The 9-minute video is a graphic display of military imagery. After realizing her video had been pulled she posted a scathing Tweet on her Twitter account directing her anger at her label.
@_M_I_A_: FUCK UMG WHO WONT SHOW IT ON YOUTUBE! FOR THE U.S >>>>>>WATCH HERE http://miauk.com/
Later realizing it was the conservative YouTube/ Google that was responsible she apologized and reiterated the alternate location where the video could be watched.
@_M_I_A_: OK NOT UMG FAULT! http://www.miauk.com/
After watching it a few times I honestly feel its pretty deep. What are your thoughts? Do you feel its promoting violence or perhaps using this imagery to do the opposite?

I don’t know why she even thought that that was gonna get any play in the United States….yeah right. VERY powerful video though. I see the point she was trying to make(even without being able to understand the words to the song…they were too low). I just don’t know what to say about it. Its so deep it just left me glued and speechless
I guess the rest of the Nation was too.
Wow…
You have to be pretty far left to think that Google and Youtube are conservative.
