Reasearch Confirms The Obvious: Discrimination in Health Care Exists

HEY TEA PARTY: Study finds Blacks, Latinos and poor people are less likely to receive quality brain tumor treatment

A study released by researchers at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine found that Black, Hispanic and poor patients are less to be referred to the best hospitals for treatment of brain tumors than their white counterparts.  Of course, we didn’t need any expensive research to let us know that though did we?

The study found Hispanic patients were about 30% less likely to be seen at the best treatment centers while African-American were a third less likely to be admitted.  The researchers found similar results for low-income patients, with those making less than $60,000 a year 43% less likely to be admitted than those making more.

The fact is, disparities in health are nothing new.   Maybe that’s part of the reason that the Tea Party and other conservatives were so against Health Care Reform policies that would work to even the playing field… THEY’RE MOSTLY WHITE!  Hmmmm….ya think?!  This study, however speaks to the exact root of the health care debate. Uneducated white folks don’t realize that their minority counterparts are at a DISADVANTAGE health wise just because of the color of their skin.  ITS A FACT.  And the more educated white folks know this but try to ignore it.  God forbid everyone would get a fair shake with something as important as one’s health.
