SOUND OFF: Is Rev Run’s Encouraging The Paper Chase Over Education Wrong?
Rev. Run Tells XXL he encouraged Angela Simmons to drop out to persue her Pastries company
@RevRunWisdom
Those of you in the Nation who are parents consider this. Would you ever tell your kids to persue their dreams if it meant sacrificing their education? Its a conversation many parents have sports phenoms have when deciding to make the jump to the pros and apparently its a talk Rev Run recently had with his daughter Angela Simmons when he encouraged her to drop out of college and instead focus on her company, Pastries. He recently admitted to XXL.com that yes he told Angela to focus on getting “that paper”.
“I don’t discourage nobody in my house. This is an entertainment house. My daughter Angela was in college, she was like, ‘Daddy, I don’t know what to do, I’m getting straight A’s in college, but Pastries is taking off.’ I’m like, ‘Peace college, go take your butt down to the sneaker office and go get that paper…that’s your college… We’ll get back to school’, Pastries is doing millions.”
So do you think that its good parenting of adult children to support skipping school in favor of the paper chase. We should be so fortunate to have the opportunity to make such a decision, its what we call “one of those good problems.” But really, if it came down to it could you see yourself telling your kids to ignore all you have worked so hard for, all you’ve told them about the importance of education instead to pursue an opportunity to make money? SOUND OFF!

It’s a toss up. It will depend on whether or not she’s a success.
.
Like Bill Gates, for example. I bet his parents were real proud when he told them he was dropping out of Harvard in the last year to go start a computer company.
but none of us are gifted with hindsight.
Later of all that gifted with hindsight & it’s a toss up. If you have the opportunity to see long money like that… GET THE DAMN MONEY… PERIOD! You can always go back to school and finish if things fall off. HELL, these days you can go to school on ya damn LAPTOP!
GET YA MONEY BABY GIRL…!
AMEN!she can easily get educated.but i highly doubt they making millions with those pastry sneakers.
I think she should be able to multi-task. Grown folks do it all the time. They work and go to school. It aint new. To focus on your paper should not distract you from your education. One day you will need a degree to work at McDonald’s.

I had a cousin who could’ve went to the NBA after his sophmore year in college but my uncle told him to finish school and better his game plus have something to “fall back on”. He got injured his game got worse and no NBA. I’ll “fall back” on a pile of money anyday before a diploma. You can buy your way into any college easier than most money making opportunities. Get money, angie…
She is in a privileged situation, because if her business fails, daddy has money or she can come up with another “reality” show to get back up on her feet. She probably should go get that money while it’s out there. College will always be there.
That what I was thinking. She can always go to any school of her choice later on if her deals run dry, schools will always be there, those million dollar deals have short expiration dates.
Well you go to college to get an education so you can make money. She has money so now what? She’s not a stupid child. She can hold her own so yeah go ahead and pursue your business. You have a strong foundation.
All school does is prepare u to get in the paper chase. Its working ass backwards to just focus on school went u already where the students in your class tring to be in life. School is cool but life is a better educator.
@ deetay,
This was good,
“School is cool but life is a better educator”
That’s a Great Point Of View cuz it really is true…
The entire point of going to school is to better yourself to take care of yourself, Pastries is doing Millions, she is good forever people, that pastries money is good for the long haul, she alright
“I make about a G a week uck school” KRS One
