Michael Jordan Now Owns The Charlotte Bobcats
Let me explain to you why this is kind of a big deal.
We all know Michael Jordan likes to gamble and now he has made the most monumental gamble of his life by becoming the majority owner of the NBA team, the Charlotte Bobcats. The former owner is BET founder Bob Johnson who is passing the torch to Jordan after running the franchise for the past six years.
“The best decision I made since acquiring the Bobcats was to convince my friend Michael to become an investor in the Bobcats and to appoint him as Managing Member of Basketball Operations. He has always been committed in his work to promote and develop the team and has extended his expertise to Bobcats Sports & Entertainment, including his recommendation that I hire Larry Brown as head coach,” said Johnson. “As the new majority owner of the Bobcats, his dedication will be stronger now more than ever. Today’s announcement is great news for the Bobcats, the City of Charlotte, the fans and the NBA. I am confident that Michael’s leadership will bring success to the Bobcats whether it’s measured by on the court performance, success as a business, or making a positive impact in the Charlotte community. I look forward to continuing to work with Michael as an owner.
This may not seem like a big deal to a lot of us who are aware that these days not all major sports team owners are old white guys. Jay-Z even owns a small part of the New Jersey Nets. However Jordan is a majority owner, not a minority owner like Jay-Z. In other words, when it comes down to it, Jordan owns the team and is the one calling the shots. Thus making him only the second black owner of a major sports team (Bob Johnson being the first). Jordan’s story is also unique in that he has pretty much worked himself up from the mail room to the board room by buying a team in the very league he used to play for.
“Purchasing the Bobcats is the culmination of my post-playing career goal of becoming the majority owner of an NBA franchise. I am especially pleased to have the opportunity to build a winning team in my home state of North Carolina,” said Jordan. “I plan to make this franchise an organization that Charlotte can be proud of, and I am committed to doing all that I can to achieve this goal.”
The Bobcats are not doing too bad this season and are hoping to secure their very first playoff spot in their young franchise’s history. We’ll have to see if Jordan can do something with these guys or will he gamble the team away like marriage and millions of dollars in the past.

Doin it!! but he had to bc ex wifey hit him over the head…hard!!
Never liked Jordan. His astronomical ego has always been bigger than any skill he has had as a basketball player. His HOF induction speech was very telling of the kind of person he is. I could care less about the Bobcats. Never liked Bob Johnson either. They’re cut from the same cloth. He had an opportunity to not only make money, but do something worthwile for Black people through BET. He chose the money. Nothing wrong with money. However, there are more important things in life and if you take care of them, the money will come (as will other blessings).
Emerson.. What the hell are you talking about?? ” ” shows that you know nothing about MJ or basketball in general. Please stop your spewing of retardedness on any forum. The blessing would be that you never comment EVER again.
“His astronomical ego has always been bigger than any skill he has had as a basketball player.” the quote I meant to include above.
your an idiot, MJ gave up a lot of money so the bulls can use it to get better players! if it wasnt for his unselfishness they pippen might have gone to a different team
You dont have to like Michael Jordan.Well let me think you say M.J has a big ego. Michael Jordan has poured his heart and soul into everything he does. The city of Chicago is greatful and by no meansdoes he have a big ego.I want you to realize the players of today have big egos.Look behind the man he came from nothing and was a leader. He brought championships to a city that had no championships point blank. When was the last time you seen Michael Jordan ask for money or a ubserb contract. I may be jumping ahead of what yur saying Emerson idiot but…and let me say i am a die hard Atlanta Hawks fan. I live in Chicago but there is a auro before every game played in Chicago. You look up at those banners and you say if anyone deserved money it was Michael..so dont talk about big egos my friend..quite frankly greedy big ego..by no means…he is deserving of everything he gets.
Stop bein a hater!!! Michael Jordan is the best thing that EVER happened to basketball!!
Michael Jordan is awesome!! I don’t think he
has a big ego…but he does have an awesome
talent, basketball !! The best player ever.
Love MJ and hope he does amazing things w/ the Bobcats!
Keeping one’s personal life out of the spot light and never flaunting or boosting his social economic status. He was an awesome “Team Player” and always shared the spot light with his team.
Michael Jordan is definitely the epitome of class and sportsmanship…way to go Mike!!
Sports is sooooo overrated. What is sports – Sports is a bunch of over grown men fighting over a ball and making millions for it. Whereas, the people who should be millionaires (teachers, scientists ) are doing all of the work to ensure our survival and don’t make shit.
Michael Jordan was an awesome NBA Star, and I’m very excited to hear that he owns the Charlotte Bobcats. I’m looking forward to what the future holds for that franchise. As for comments made by Emerson Diaz, they are completely off base and misguided. Michael is a great man, and has made a hugh contribution to the game of Basketball that no one will ever be able to match. He is also a outstanding individual who has gained the respect of many people. I have always admirded is skill, professionalism, achievements and commitment to the game of basketball. Keep up the great work Michael we are all standing with you..
