Ice Cube’s Got No Love For Upstart West Coast Rappers

Posted by Juan

“They’re just mad cause I don’t fuck with they wack-ass”

Ice Cube@Icecube

It all started with Charles Barkley I think.  Dudes make it big time and then get mad when cats look up to them.  Ice Cube is no exception.  In his rise to fame he’s gone from the hardened thug life gangsta in John Singleton’s “Boyz in the Hood” to the family friendly father in “Are We There Yet.”  And all the while he’s maintained that he’s not given up the rap music that jump started his career.

On his blog last week he proclaimed the thrown of the West Coast Rap Game.  And as he ramps up the energy for his upcoming album appropriately named, I Am The West he’s been talking a lot of shit on his blog which has generated just the buzz he’ll need for a successful release.  In a recent rant, Cube told all the upstart West Coast rappers that he’s not here to make anybody famous.

“What’s up with these local MC’s in L.A. who keep disrespecting me? They’re just mad cause I don’t fuck with they wack-ass. They ain’t on my level, why should I waste my time.”

“I don’t even remember ever meeting these clowns or even being in the same room with any of ‘em. They can’t make a name for themselves, so they need help from the OGs. I refuse the throw’em a life line.”

“Fuck ‘em. It ain’t my job to make nobody famous. And for the record, I ain’t scared of no nigga. Especially, no rappers …seriously people.”

Yeah. Take notice he’s summoning the Cube of “Today Was A Good Day.”

All I can say is why not throw a life line. If you help start someone elses career then you might help them live a better life. Remember when you were young and trying to make it. Help a brotha out. Singleton threw you one to help you make it in the movies.

Niggas forgeting where they came from as usual. Another form of separate but equal in my book. He is from hood, wants to be hood associated and affiliated, but dont want nothing to do with the hood.

Being from New York, specifically Harlem, the birthplace of rap, I never cared much for west coast rap. Sure, they have some ill beats, but their lyrics seemed to always be about some drive-by shootings (Tupac was the only one I can remember who rapped about anything significant). I used to HATE NWA, Snoop, the whole lot of them. I met Cube in the mid 90′s and became a fan because of the man he is (not necessarily his music. Although after meeting him I did pump Lethal Injection back then).
I don’t blame him for the stance he is taking. He made it. He is challenging them to have the same drive and put in the work that he put in. Dudes are like crabs in a barrel.

I am 4ever a West Coast Ryda on the real.I have been a fan of Ice Cube since NWA yet he has even came out with some whack shit lately that sounds like the upcoming corn ball ass artisthe speaks on. Especally this last 1 “Raw Footage”.I do hope he is refering 2 the content no the actual help. There was a time when even Cube got a break and was down with this kid named Andre Young (be on the look out 4 Detox …yeah right)Who put him down with this other kid named Eric Wright, who in turn gave him a break by asking him 2 write a song 4 him 4 this group called HBO . HBO did not like the song so this kid named Eric ended up doing the song which turned out 2 b “Boyz N Tha Hood” another xxxample what if Andre Young did not help a kid from Long Beach named Snoop .My point is sometimes it’s cool 2 pull some1 in. He has done it 4 Mack 10, The Lench Mob,K-dee etc. 2days hip hop artist really don’t understand the Grind or the sacrifice these previous West Coast artist put down 4 them.NWA, Snoop Dr.Dre E40, Quik Eazy E Spice 1 M.C.Eiht all have laid the blue print 4 the West Coast 2 follow . As Cube would say Bow Down.

I been listening to Cube since back in the NWA days, I guess it depends on how you look at it. One hand, like the brothaz said above in they commends, yeah may be he trying to tell these young cats thats comin up now, that they have to put they own work in like him and many other west coast rappers. And on the other hand, like 2NA$$TEE said, some body once gave him a break back in the day! But never the less,I still fu@kz wit Cube!
