Sony Signs Biggest Record Deal Ever, Worth Over 200 Million, With… Michael Jackson
Who the biggest entertainer since MJ died? Seem it’s still MJ.
There is no doubt that in his death Michael Jackson is more popular than he has been in the last couple of decades. One might be surprised at the amount of time this popularity may last. Almost a year after passing, Michael Jackson merchandise is still flying off shelves. To cash in off all that new found love for the Gloved One, Sony has just signed a huge record deal with Michael Jackson’s estate which is worth at least 200 million dollars.
The deal will allow Sony to put out 10 new Michael Jackson projects over the course of the next seven years. Those projects will be a mix of repackaged older material as well as unreleased songs. The first album of completely unheard Jackson music is expected this fall. The deal retroactively covers the “This Is It” double disc release and that will count towards the 10 stated projects. Ones of the talked about projects that fans may especially find interesting is a rerelease of Off The Wall with added material because those close to Jackson said he had wanted to do something special with that album to expose it to today’s audience who may only be familiar with Jackson’s albums after Thriller.
Rob Stringer, chairman of Sony Music’s Columbia Epic Label Group, had this to say in regards to the deal, “We’re dedicated to protecting this icon’s legacy and we’re thrilled that we can continue to bring his music to the world for the foreseeable future.”
It’s funny as this is the same label that Michael Jackson was badmouthing to the press because of how poorly they pushed his last full length studio album Invincible.
It’s no wonder Sony wants to get their hands in the cookie jar as Jackson has sold 31 million albums just since dying.
This is looking like Tupac all over again. Somewhere Joe Jackson is licking his chops I’m sure.

Definitely not in the same category as Pac. This is the biggest deal in Music History! Joe Jackson aint getting a penny the deal is btwn Sony and the Mike Jack estate. Sony will gladly give up 200 mill in advances and up to 250mill total so they could eventually own 100% of that Beatles catalog which was split 50-50 btwn them and Mike. Mike’s half is currently worth a billion.
Not to mention all the money thats going to be made off of rehashing old joints, “unreleased” joints, merchandising etc, etc. Also they’ll probably get Mike’s masters back after the deal expires too. Mike got them in the early 80′s and has ownership till 2015 this deal extends that till 2017. After that Sony will more than likely get em back.
How would this deal help Sony get the Beatles songs?
Its a good look. I just hope his “estate” includes separate residuals for his kids not just his siblings.
But, we all know these kids will be complaining in about 15 – 25 years (when Tito is buried in a solid platinum casket, Jermaine is entombed in a diamond studded sarcophgus in the pyramid at Giza, and the rest of their bodies are laying in mauseleums on the moon, so they can eternaly rest amongst the stars,) that they are dead broken and have to cash in bottles and cans to live.
LMAO! you crazy man!
“Jermaine is entombed in a diamond studded sarcophgus in the pyramid at Giza.”
Can somebody tell me why this makes any fuckin sense?
