TX Atheist Student Group Offers Porn For Bible Trade-In
Argument that religious texts are no less offensive than porn sparks controversy, protests and prayer vigils on campus
If you needed further evidence the world is about to end, a recognized atheist student group at the University of Texas, San Antonio campus has launched a campaign to students pornography in exchange for Bibles. The news comes just days after teenagers burned a church van using bible pages as an accelerant.
The group, Atheist Agenda has modeled its “Smut for Smut” exchange after police exchange programs offering things like gifts and money in exchange for illegal guns.
“We consider the bible to be a very negative force in the history of the world,” student Ryan Walker said.”
Naturally the program has sparked outrage by many students prompting prayer vigils and protest.
The group … has raised the ire of several religious organizations on campus. “In my opinion, there are no atheists. There are fools,” Pastor Rick Hawkins of UTSA’s Family Praise Center said. “So, that would be foolish propaganda. I don’t know one believer that would take his Bible and turn it in for pornography.”
On the flip side, Atheists Blogger Austin Cline pointed out “I doubt people will trade [erotic] calendars for adult magazines making reference to German Protestant students who have created a erotic calendar based on scenes from the Bible:
“We wanted to represent the Bible in a different way and to interest young people. Anyway, it doesn’t say anywhere in the Bible that you are forbidden to show yourself nude.” said Anne Rohmer, 21, wearing garters and stockings while posing on a doorstep as the prostitute Rahab.
“Distributing the calendars in exchange for Bibles would be an interesting idea,” Cline says. “I think. Religious leaders would have less cause for complaint.”

i thought it was all in what you and an individual BELIEVES! not what ut forced to believe. so they are fools for not believing in the bible. but as they ‘word’ was spreading back in the day, many were tortured and put to death bc they ddnt believe in it or had “other” religion. The Dark Ages, The Crusades and the Inquisition all played their respective parts in doing so. Period. and THAT is taught history!

If a person wants to believe, OK. If they don’t want to believe, Ok. But everyone seems to be so angry all the time.

On the atheist side, you have a bunch of angry people who act as if they were subjected to the inquisition themselves. On the other side, you have the crazies who want to force their beliefs down others throats.

For example: the so-called Christian group who goes and protests at the funeral of Iraq soldiers. If they want to believe what they belief fine, but I think it’s reprehensible that they show up in front of the grieving parents and shot that their child is in Hell for serving in the army.

I believe that strong fences build good neighbors, and I think that a lot of these people really need to learn to mind their own business.

This porn-for-bibles bit is just an attention getter; a ploy by people who are far too young to understand the world as much as they claim they think they do. But, it is college, so the choice was to either become an atheist, a Buddhist, or a philosophy major.
