DMX’s Gospel Concert Cancelled Amid Fear By Sponsoring Venue
Should the troubled but devoutly spiritual entertainer be allowed to perform as testimony for his church?
The Bible says “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” (Matthew 7, 1-2) While I don’t make a habit of quoting scripture here on Highbrid Nation I think it applies especially to the case of DMX.
Clearly a troubled individual for many years, The Yonkers native’s life has played out like a dramatic tragedy. While we’ve witnessed his many bouts with the law and battles with substance abuse we’ve also seen his deep spirituality through his lyrics.
In effort to testify to the later, DMX was scheduled to perform this weekend in Arizona as part of a “Gospel Rap Extravaganza” to benefit Morning Star Sanctified Church in Glendale where he and his family had been worshiping for the past year. However Independence High School, the venue where the event was to take place canceled it when they realized DMX was to take part, thus judging him on his past.
In an effort to indemnify the church and school of any potential incident, the pastor told TMZ she took out a $1 million insurance policy for the concert but the school didn’t want any part and returned the church’s $500 deposit.
In a country where folks are given so many chances its a shame that Lil Wayne should get to perform at MSG on the eve of his incarceration while DMX who has clearly struggled to reform his life and become a positive role model can’t even participate in a church function. SMH.

That is a shame, the fact that they won’t let him perform, regardless of his church taking out insurance to appease them. What message is that school sending out to their community? If you mess up, you’re done? you don’t get another chance to make it right, even if you are taking the steps necessary to get your life in order? Life is about learning from our mistakes and rectifying them. They seem hypocritical and that is why young people rebel against authority figures: many don’t practice what they preach! If my kids were enrolled in that school, I would look into switching them to a different school.
Love the stance.
You took the words right out of my mouth!!! I could go further and make this a race issue, which I practice not to do.So I’ll let someone else debate the issue from that angle.
If this was Brittany Spears or Lindsey Lohan, or any other white Ex or reforming drug addict/ trouble maker would it had went down the same???
But I’m not going to go there…
Good point, the funny thing if any, if DMX as an hip hop artist wanted to preform a clean concert it wouldn’t be a problem, when religion is thrown in there everything changes….When a man turns his life over to God, crazy how the world tend to turn its back on him… I hope this doesn’t set this mans progression back….
