Erykah Badu Gets Paul McCartney To Clear Sample By Begging On Twitter
Why do you need lawyers and red tape when you have a Twitter account.
As someone who has been the executive producer on several album, I can tell you that clearing samples sucks. The red tape involved with getting a sample cleared is enough to make someone not want to bother. However maybe if people followed Erykah Badu then maybe the process would be a lot more pleasant because she recently managed to clear a sample in a matter of minutes using Twitter.
The story goes something like this…
Badu, while working on her new album New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, she came up with a song that uses a sample of Wings’ song “Arrow Through Me”. The rights of the song are actually owned by Paul McCartney. She couldn’t go through the regular legal channels to get the sample cleared because she had a deadline of mere hours before having to submit the final version of her album. So she took to her Twitter and tweeted, “less than 24 hours or song wont make album . help . it will happen!!”
That tweet made it to the feed of Zoe Kravitz who then passed it on to her father Lenny Kravitz, who then told his friend Stella McCartney, who is the daughter of the famous Beatle. Just 11 hours after Paul McCartney found out about Badu’s situation, he cleared.

Paul probably saw the hair, and figured the kid had enough problems without piling on.
lol. Badu is a weird one. I wish her well. Its amazing how small the world has become with twitter. Its like putting the entire universe in VIP with celebrities.
networking. Good for her. Hope the song is ear crack!
Erica can get it long ti.
