Harvard University Honors Wyclef Jean For His Efforts With the Yéle Haiti Foundation
In addition to answering the bell in their time of need, Yéle has been committed to helping Haiti recover
Wyclef Jean is being honored by Harvard University not for his work in the studio but his work outside of it. He will be named 2010 Artist of the Year by the Harvard Foundation at the annual Cultural Rhythms award ceremony on Feb. 27.
Clef’s organization, Yéle Haiti Foundation, which promotes sports and the arts in Haiti of course has been very influential in raising money, distributing food and mobilizing emergency disaster relief in the wake of the earthquake in the capital city of Port-au-Prince. Prior to the unfortunate disaster, Yéle Haiti Foundation awarded annual scholarships, started soccer programs for at-risk youth, and facilitated free outdoor films in neighborhoods without electricity.
“His contributions to music and distinguished history of creativity have been appreciated by people throughout the world,” said S. Allen Counter, director of the Harvard Foundation, “and he is admired worldwide for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of the people of Haiti.”
Past winners of the award include Will Smith, Halle Berry and Denzel Washington. Keep shaking the haters off Clef, Salute.
