Miss Virginia Chanels Beyonce and Sings Her Way to Miss America
The Lone Star in a fading Iconic American Institution that WAS the Miss America Pagent
Perhaps its just me but it seemed like the Miss America pagent used to be a much bigger deal. Prime Time, must see television. Now its relegated to Saturday night on TLC of all channels the night before the Grammy’s and Pro Bowl. Not a good look if you’re trying to draw viewers. Not to mention the lackluster cast of judges including radio talk jerkoff, Rush Limbaugh of all people, actress Vivica Fox, musician Dave Koz, Miss America 2002 Katie Harman, Olympic gold winning gymnast Shawn Johnson and former “American Idol” finalist Brooke White. I guess the luster that was the beauty pagent has had its day and isn’t what it used to be.
None the less it was a special night for Miss Virginia, Caressa Cameron from Fredericksburg, VA who won the title of Miss America 2010 and a $50,000 scholarship. While she won over the judges with her swim suit, it was believed it was the 22-year-old African American broadcast journalism student’s strong performance of Beyonce’s “Listen” from the Dreamgirls movie that pushed her over the top.
