Highbrid Nation Prays For Haiti. Wyclef Asks For Your Help
Following the horrific 7.0 magnitude earthquake that rocked Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince, Hip Hop tries to help
While reporting world news isn’t quite what we do here at Highbrid Nation, we’d definitely be remiss if we didn’t address the horrifying devastation caused by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday. While it will be some time before the final damage tally and death tolls are calculated it is clear this is one of the worst natural disasters we’ve seen in our lives. At least 28 aftershocks of magnitude of 4.0 struck the country causing already causing additional damage and casualties.
Wyclef Jean, who of course is a Haitian born immigrant is asking the Hip Hop community for their help. “We must act now,” he urges.
In addition to the U.S. government, he is calling on the international community to help. Interested parties can make a secure, tax-deductible donation by texting “YELE” to 501 501 to donate $5 to Wyclef’s non-profit organization, Yele Haiti (www.yele.org).
Other organizations currently mobilizing in Haiti that can use your help includ the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, supporting UNICEF‘s emergency response in Haiti and of course The Red Cross. To donate you can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti. If anyone else knows of other ways to help please alert us all in the comments section.
