Has Jay-Z supplanted Frank Sinatra As New York’s Official M.C.?

Posted by Juan

With Empire State of Mind and Run This Town monopolizing human subconsious the question is valid.

Let me start off by saying I’m a Jiggaman fan.  Always have been.  If you read the nonesense I have to say every day you probably can tell that.  Even in his advanced (rap) age I still enjoy and am entertained by his music even though he’s never been my favorite emcee.  (See Rakim, BIG L & B.I.G.)

That said even I can’t help but turn the radio station after the 33rd time “Run This Town” or “Empire State of Mind” hits the radio in the same day part.   The two songs have not only taken over Urban Contemporary Radio, not only pop radio and charts but can now be heard mumbled by white yuppie 5o somethings as they commute to work every morning drinking their lattes and reading the Wall Street Journal.

The songs, particularly have amassed a coup against human subconscious holding a monopoly on against any song that would be otherwise stuck in your head.  I came to realize this, this morning while reading my homeboy Yeti over at WoooHa.  He had this clip of FOX’s promo for Kiefer Sutherland‘s “24″ premier in which Jigga’s iconic question “wassup” can be clearly heard in the background as Rihanna wales in the fore.  Yeti appropriately begs the question…has Jay-Z supplanted the venerable Frank Sinatra‘s writes to New York’s theme song(s)?

      I second that!

He has feel off! His original boys don’t even consider him a friend anyone from how much he has changed.

If he was the original Jay-Z, something woulda been done bout Chris Brown….This chillin like a grandpa, there is more than meets the eyes with this guy

  2. lyphe says:

he did say that he was the new Sinatra.
