SOUND OFF: What Grade Would You Give President Obama?
When asked during his personal assesment of his job performance he graded himself “a good solid B+”
During last night’s “Oprah’s Christmas at the White House” special on ABC, she asked President Obama what grade he would give himself for his first year in office.
“A good solid B-plus,” the President answered. “I think we have inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. We stabilized the economy … We are on our way out of Iraq. I think we’ve got the best possible plan for Afghanistan. We have reset our image around the world.”
To further explain at how he arrived at his determination Obama continued, “I think that we’re going to pass the most significant piece of social legislation since social security, and that’s health insurance for every America.”
That’s all well and good but Oprah wanted to know as many of us probably did too, why specifically that letter grade?
“B-plus because of the things that are undone. Health care is not yet signed,” the president responded frankly. “If I get health care passed we tip into A minus.”
I personally am of the belief that when you’re in a position of power you have to set very high expectations and if Obama can grade himself a B+ he clearly didn’t expect a great deal from himself. HOWEVER, I do recognize that leadership especially to the magnitude in which he is does requires not only a great deal of outward confidence but also providing reassurance to your followers. A B+ is an acceptable grade and perhaps Obama is trying to convince the public that we’re making progress towards a recovery yet low enough to be realistic and provide room for growth.
That’s cool and all but me personally and I’m sure if the President were to be honest with himself his GPA would more realistically be hovering in the 2.0 range and in danger of losing his scholarship.
But what do you think NATION? What’s YOUR grade for President Obama?

In all fairness , I’m going to have to give him a C.
.
He’s showing up for class, but he’s really not applying himself in his work.
.
If we are going to be honest in grading his performance, we must separate those things he can control (his actions) and those things that are perceptions of him (the effect he has on others).
.
In terms of perception, he is, of course, a home run. As I said before the election, if he did nothing more than get elected and then stay out of trouble, he will be a redeeming figure in American history. And, if he is going to be nothing more than a sign of national closure, then he has already accomplished that. His work, in other words, would be done.
.
However, if we are going to judge him on his accomplishments, if we are going to judge him by the same standard that we judge other presidents, I’m not seeing much. So far, aside from the hope for the future he has instilled around the world, can anyone name anything he’s actually done?
.
He has several plans in the works. Some of them, if he succeeds, will count as serious points toward his grade. But until he turns in the work, it’s still counted as an incomplete.
I was going to say a “C” as well perhaps a “C-” but perhaps an incomplete is better. I think he’s taking a long term approach but he doesn’t realize that the American people especially in times of crisis are very impatient.
.
Lets hope he’s like my favorite boxer, Bernard Hopkins. Spend 6 rounds feeling out his opponent and pour it on in the later rounds just enough to win by 1 point. Its getting late though and pretty soon he’s going to need a knock out.
I agree with the incomplete grade. While he has done a lot of provocative things during his first year in office, every single of of those things or just a few could become failures and further doom the country. Let some key companies who received “Bail-out” money go bankrupt and not pay back what’s owed, or let a certain number of those new service members sent to Afganistan get slaughtered, or the Health Care reform make a wrong turn and plunge the national defecit, the president would be on his way to an “F” with no summer school makeup available. We have to see the end result of his actions to give him a proper grade.
LOL @ No summer school but you’re right. He’s juggling a lot of balls right now and he needs to put some projects to bed before he can get any positive grades. Unlike school homework isn’t due in the morning but we’ve gotta assume reasonable deadlines. Those deadlines are fast approaching.
Obama has pulled us out of a major financial collapse and hole left by 8 years of bush/repub policies. The market crashed as bad as it did during the depression era. Banks closing, fat cats stealing, healthcare too expensive, etc. That was his number 1 goal. When he took over the market (dow) was in 7000′s, today it is in 10,000′s and climbing upwards. Folks who lost and were at 60% total value of their stocks/IRA’s have now climbed back to over 90% as of today. Not bad for first 11 months. Imagine if we would have kept on republican course? 2nd year will be healthcare reform and jump starting lending and real estate. 3rd year will be war pullouts, 4th year will be re-election and reflection. Then we will have 4 more years that will include implementation of his new policies for the middle class and others.

a SOLID F+ . . .str8 failed in my book. He lost my support after blowing all that damn money on cash for clunkers and all these other pointless ass stimulous packages.
