[RANT] Timbaland Officially Sh*ts on Hip Hop… And Rightfully So
Why his views represent the mission statement of the Highbrid Nation.
Back in the very late 90′s and early 2000′s production from super-producer, Timbaland was an ingredient when mixed with virtually any formidable artist would ensure the success of their album. However most recently, the producer has been all but absent from the genre entirely.
When asked by MTV.com why he’s abandoned his roots he said he’s completely finished producing tracks for hip hop artists, insisting the genre is “just not the same” anymore.
“I was done with hip-hop a long time ago. Once my generation left, I left. I do it, but there’s nobody from my generation besides Jay-Z who’s doing it. I look at Lil Wayne as being from my generation. Some people are still acceptable. Kanye (West) is acceptable from my generation. It’s just not the same. By it not being the same, I kind of fade to black. I did music that fits where I was going to in my age bracket.”
“I figured it out a couple of years ago with Nelly (Furtado) and Justin (Timberlake) and myself. We had a tremendous run. I think it was good for me to do that. But I got this run, I’m not gonna stop until I wanna stop.”
While some might misinterpret this as “selling out” what he’s really saying is that Hip Hop is WACK! He’s telling Hip Hop she’s no longer worthy of his art because its too immature. Yeah he may have sugar coated it stating he no longer relates to Hip Hop’s “age bracket” but he’s a producer. The track is always timeless. Mozart’s generation filed out generations ago but his music is still highly regarded. Hip Hop needs to grow up.
Unfortunately, the game has been overrun by children without a clue of whence then came or where their going and the music has struggled as a result. While the formula is still effective and seducing its followers into a vegetative trance, mindlessly following it lacks a checks and balance to keep it honest…keep it good.
That’s what I’ve always believed the Highbrid Nation to be. The voice of reason and honesty for a culture we used to call our own. We’re the underground railroad for Hip Hop, escaping the noise of the misguided youth, venturing to a land where we can be free to enjoy the past and even the present but call foul when a foul call is needed.
Timbaland is one of us and I can’t fault him for moving on. He’s still making money off the Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado and Pussycat Dolls of the world but in the absence of formidable hip-hop contemporary he’s just fine to leave her alone…and I’m cool with that.

What can we say? Maybe all this “b!tches” and “ho3s” stuff is starting to get stale.
Hmmm. Never thought about it from that angle.
Or maybe he’s tired of the same repetitive music that is being put out. Too many dance songs, and dudes who say they were really in the trap. Mess like that is played out a bit. Step your rap game up, you don’t have to go commercial but be a little more creative with your music. Timbaland might have said he’s done with hip hop but anybody ever ask him if its because he’s eating off of the white folks? LOL
White folks are more entertaining as well though. Who would you rather listen to Nelly Furtado or Nelly?
I have to answer neither nor to that one Juan.
Like whats already been said 90% of Hip-Hop out today is Bullshit. Me naming the wack is kinda giving them pops, so I’m going to stop doing that. Acts that I consider good like Lupe, Talib Kweli, are far and few between.
I’m glad I listen to different genres of music. If I had to rely on Hip-Hop alone I would probably listen to nothing at all.
As a mid level producer. I would care if timberland stop doing hip hop if he were the musical genus he claims to be, but hes not. If you do your research timberland steal 95% of his music and doesnt give credit nor pays the oringal person who made it. He get away with it because most of the music he steal is from over seas and copywrite law dont aply in the US. So if timberland don’t want to make hip hop anymore thats fine with me….. Good written’s because that makes more room for real talent.
well that’s a whole other post ha ha ha
As I’ve said before here at HN, I’m old skool. Grew up in Harlem and was right in the middle of it when hip hop got started. I went to block parties where the Sugarhill Gang performed, and have witnessed the development and deterioration of rap. I had already stopped listening to rap when Timbaland came out, so I don’t know much of his music… I say this to relay true story: I used to work at a youth shelter about 10 years ago and the kids were always freestyling or battling….one of them got a bit too hyped one day and challenged me…so I’m like, man, they got me, but I couldn’t go out like that, so I started spitting some old Rakim at them and it sounded like I just made it up….I blew their minds with it….later, I confessed and brought in my old CD’s and let them listen…Point: there are no rappers today that can even come close to The God, and great music is timeless!
LMAO!!! I can just imagine them kids asking who Rakim was. LOL
