Russell Simmons’ Female Assistants Get Own Reality Show

Posted by Juan

Life catering to Hip Hop’s most iconic mogul

Russell

Oxygen, the cable Network in part owned and developed by Oprah Winfrey has announced that they are  developing a new reality TV show for Russell Simmons?  If you’re wondering why a network almost exclusively devoted to programming geared toward women would choose to document the life of notorioius womanizing male power fiend you’d be asking a valid question.  The series is said to be focusing not on the mogul but rather the women in his professional life.  “The Russell Simmons Project” as it is called will document the female assistants who “manage his business deals… family life, party planning and love life.”

“Russell Simmons is a fascinating man and seeing his world through the eyes of his dream team comprised of strong, passionate women provides a unique experience for our viewers,” said Amy Introcaso-Davis, senior vp, programming for Oxygen. “We’re excited to team up with Russell on this project and shine the spotlight on his core group that are living the dream alongside him.”

I think this is going to be a very successful show and I am actually looking forward to actually checking it out.  If you know Russell well you’d know its the people behind the scenes that make him so successful and such an intriguing figure.

“Throughout my career I have surrounded myself with people smarter than me,” Simmons said. “This show will let them shine and provide insight into how we build our empire from the inside out.”

Not to mention, I’m sure given his history there will be plenty of eye candy.  The show will likely give viewers an insiders look into just what goes on in the life of one of Hip Hop’s most iconic figures.  If you’re an aspiring artist or executive this might not be a show you could afford to miss.

I got worried at first, given that you have partnered with Ruffle Thimmons on the Rush Card thingamajig. I’m just tired of reality shows. The genre is losing its focus…as if it ever had a focus to begin with. But everybody can’t have a reality show. It’s just not possible.

Agreed! I am not the only person in the world who could care less about the lives of “assistants.” Who’s next, the assistant to the assistant?! We seem to be in the minority here, Zack. I think reality shows are at best boring. At worst, they make up dumb crap to try and make otherwise boring people look “human”, so that people who have no lives can think they are “exciting”, or whatever, and watch that foolishness. The premise of television is to entertain. One of the great things about it is that it can also educate. “Reality” shows fall short in both categories…..off my soapbox now!!!
