BIGGER BONEHEAD?: Nas Driving High or Adrian Peterson Doing 109 in a 55 MPH Zone?

Posted by Juan

SOUND OFF: Which is more dangerous, traveling at incredibly high speeds, being high or drunk while driving?

Drunk Driver

Yesterday I heard about two high profile celebrities caught wilding out while in their cars.  Nas has been charged of driving while under the influence of marijuana stemming from a routine traffic stop back in September.  Then there’s Minnesota Vikings animal status running back, Adrian Peterson who was issued a  speeding citation last weekend for driving 109 mph on a suburban Minneapolis highway with a posted speed limit of 55 MPH.

Nas

The two incidents while totally unrelated lead me to think about which is worse?  I personally am not a marijuana smoker and my 98 Nissan Altima would probably fall to bits at 109 MPH so the likelihood of me being in either situation is very low.  However I have many friends who do choose to smoke weed and in fact do it before and while their driving.  These same people would be less inclined to drink alcohol prior to operating their vehicle then smoke which leads me to believe in their minds that marijuana is less impairing than alcohol.

Adrian Peterson

Without getting into the legalization of marijuana debate if indeed this hood logic is somehow true it would seem rather backwards that it is alcohol that is legally available for purchase.  On the other hand we have Peterson.  Driving at over a buck in his BMW 7 series.  While he wasn’t under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at such a high speed one would have to believe even with the All-Pro laser sharp reaction that AP possesses that it would make avoiding danger as difficult as it would have been for Nas who was under the influence traveling at normal speeds.

While AP was only issued a citation, charges are pending against Nas who was arrested after he flunked a field sobriety test.  The arresting officer said he observed “eyelid tremors in both eyes and body tremors.” after noticing a smell of weed inside his car.  In his report he said Nas had “a green tongue with raised taste buds.”

So my question is… Who was more wrong?  Does it even matter?

I will always put driving under the influence as a bigger crime than speeding. There had to be minimal traffic for A.P. to get up to 109mph, he just got caught out in the open and he is only putting himself in danger. Now people that drive under the influence, when they get into an accident they seem to always walk away while the victim is the person that gets hurt or killed.

Although I don’t minimize the dangers in going 100 mph, I’ve driven 100 mph before (on a rental) and was in control the whole time. I drove under the influence of marijuana once. That was enough. I was tripping and doing dumb stuff on the road (and, when young, I was a heavy weed smoker, so that wasn’t new to me).

I think its both risky. You don’t really have absolute control of either. Even if you’re sober, if you’re speeding you can predict how the car will react. You could move the steering wheel a certain way and that could cause you to crash just as if you were under the influence.

I have to weigh in on this b/c not only do I smoke while driving, I also drive a high powered luxury vehicle, not quite a 7 series but close enough. In no way do I advocate smoking weed and driving at the same time, what I will say is that for experienced smoker/drivers 9 times out of ten nothing will happen. B/C weed slows down ur reaction time, it also makes you drive slower. If you read the Nas story he got caught in a routine traffic stop, he wasn’t speeding or breaking any traffic laws. If I had to guess he was probably driving under the speed limit. But as I said before it does slow down your reaction time, so if something like a deer, little kid, yellow cone etc. suddenly appears in the street if you’re high its going to be more difficult to avoid hitting the person or item.
As far as A.P. is concerned 109 in a 7series feels like 50 in a regular car, these high end cars are so supercharged and powerful you could hit a buck w/o even noticing. Especially on the highway. I will say however that if something darts out in front the vehicle or even if you hit a pothole it’s almost impossible to control that car at those speeds and avoid having an horrific accident. So I would have to say based on my personal experience that driving at 109mph is a lot worse than driving under the influence of Marijuana. Drunk Driving is worse than both and is something I don’t advocate at all. ZERO TOLERANCE!

That’s an important note. 109mph in a 7series DOES feel like 50-60 in a normal car. True Dat!!

neither. i have done both. doing 145mph in my cuz Lex but ran outta straight road. But i KNEW city cops/HWY Patrol dont frequent that road at all at the time i was speeding.

I got stopped at a guard gate and got popped for a DWI. Id rather get that ticket to be honest. bc getting a DUI/DWI (there is a big diff between the two) has major repercussions on your life, insurance etc. the ticket is a big fine and maybe some points on your license. but that damn DUI/DWI does both and possibly suspension/revocation of said license, hefty fines, court costs etc. With that being said, gimme that ticket!!!! ALL DAY LONG!

Nas was never charged with DUI…charges dropped! State of GA drug testing came back negative for all drugs and alcohol! The cops were really f’ing with Nas!!!

Marijuana is the opposite as driving while drunk . Most people have enough sense and won’t drive because they know they are too stoned .

With Alcohol you will drive and make no sense because you are drunk .

With Alcohol you’ll drive recklessly if drunk .

With Marijuana you will usually drive slow and carefully .

But , i don’t recommend ever driving under the influence of Weed because you could be too cautious and do something stupid trying to be careful like stop at a green light or something .

They are opposites .
