Ice Cube #5 On Forbes List of “Hollywood’s 10 Most Overpaid Stars”

Posted by Juan

You can’t make all those corny movies and not get called out.

Ice Cube

Throughout his extensive rap  career with NWA and as an independent artist, Ice Cube was regarded as one of Hip Hop’s most revered rappers.  Then when he burst onto the movie scene as “Doughboy” in Boyz in the Hood it was believed he’d have the same impact in Hollywood.  Although he has had a great deal of success, and made a lot of money many critics have felt he’s gotten a bit too soft and as one magazine points out a bit overpaid as he has landed on Forbes magazine list “Hollywood’s 10 Most Overpaid Stars.”

According to the financial tome, for every dollar that the West Coast rap legend turned actor was paid, his films only make $4.77.  His dwindling box office stats over his last few films earned him a spot at no. 5 on the list.    He was however overshadowed but the underwhelming performances of Will Ferrell, Ewan McGregor, Billy Bob Thornton and Eddie Murphy who were listed ahead of him.

To qualify for the list every actor had to star in at least three movies over the last five years and each flick had to open in 500 theaters or more nationwide. Forbes then took into account the person’s total compensation for their last three roles and divided it by the movies’ total operating income to determine each individual’s return-on-investment figure.

It’s all relative. You can’t tell me that that guy from Transformers didn’t luck up getting that roll (he’s on the other side of the list). Also, Will Smith in films like Independence Day. ANYONE could have played that character. Hancock sucked, but people went to see it. Again, lucky Will.

The attention should be paid to the “corny” people who watch those Cube movies. Get paid Ice Cube!
