Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Returning To Wrestling?
He’s been dropping a lot of hints. Would it be a bad career move.
We all know Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s story. Third generation professional wrestler who went from being the top guy in the WWE to being the star of Disney movies. Though Johnson tried to juggle wrestling and movies for a while, eventually he left wrestling all together and hasn’t really looked back since. Until now that is.
Johnson recently appeared on the Jack Diamond Show radio show and had this to say…
“I love that world and being able to entertain, especially if I could go back whether it’s on Smackdown and do a promo or guest-host or we could create this cool show, whatever that may be. Especially now, I’m at the point where I can go back and give back to the fans and help out the guys in any way I can.”
“I’m in the process of creating something really cool for the fans - something very special and unique,” Johnson said. “It will be something like one big entertaining show.”
Why even come back at this point? It’s probably a combination of obligation and the chance at an easy and huge payday.
When Johnson left the WWE, he disappointed a lot of fans because he never did give them that big huge retirement match. In addition to any guilt that may have caused him, he also owes a lot to wrestling. Since he’s the son of a wrestler, wrestling has been putting food on his table most of his life and if it wasn’t for wrestling he would have never been able to break into movies. So maybe now that he’s a huge movie star he feels he’s in a good place to give back to the business that made him and maybe also walk away on better terms with the fans. On top of that, it’s well know that a top wrestler can pocket up to 1 million dollars from just one event like a Wrestlemania.
Even though it may be easy to understand why “The Rock” might feel an urge to return to the ring, is it really a smart move? Up until recently WWE and Johnson were moving in two totally different directions when it comes to family friendliness. WWE was doing “bra and panties” matches and showing blood on the air on a regular basis while Dwayne Johnson was doing movies like Disney’s Witch Mountain and The Game Plan. However things are a little different now. WWE has cleaned up their act quite a bit in efforts to get a better TV rating and thus pull in more advertisers. So it’s very possible that Johnson’s squeaky clean image wouldn’t be as tarnished by being associated with professional wrestling as it once was.
It’s highly unlikely that we will see The Rock back wrestling full time as he’s still making a ton of dough making movies but an appearance here and there and a Wrestlemania match seems more and more likely. The Rock vs. John Cena anyone?
What do you guys think. Bad career move or is Dwayne Johnson really at the point where something like this wouldn’t affect his earning potential?

I think this would be great for The Rock! I was one of the fans who was upset when he left. He brought that swag and made everybody love him! I hope dude comes back, it’ll be worth it and I am 100% positive that the fans will embrace him as if he never left. And of course he’d take Cena out. Remember when Cena first came out? The Rock made him look like a little bitch. Hey Mike, think you can find that clip and post it? It was John Cena’s first appearance on Smackdown…like 2000 or 2001.
I vaguely remember the two interacting around The Rocks last run in the WWE, before Cena blew up. However I can’t seem to find it online. Did find this though from the Hall of Fame Ceremony…
na. The Rock and Stone Cold more like it bc, yes, 3:16 is coming back as well. Rock is hinting at it as well to keep fans waiting. Anyone that knows WWF/E wrestling KNOWS those two ALWAYS had the best rivalry. hands down. talkin shit and swallowing spit, they did. and was knocking ea other around the ring for years! They made the most money for Vince. Its a no-brainer.
used to be a BIG wrestling fan…but I say that if anything ROCK and CENA just so rock can call cena out on trying to steal his swag!! when cena first came out he was a jersey wearing sneaker pumping shit talker then he turns to movies and now he thinks he’s a damn soldier(btw most soldiers hate him…lol). so i hope that rock does make a few appearances just so cena can get off his knees and shut up!!
