Manny Pacquiao Makes History W/ KO of Cotto. Better than Mayweather?

Posted by Juan

Although it remains to be seen whether the debate will be settled in the ring, Pacquaio makes his case as the best.

Manny Pacquiao

I guess its a bit of a Sports Monday if you don’t mind.  Over the weekend if you were like me you bummed a spot on the couch next to your neighbor who actually ordered the fight.  And if you did, you witnessed history.  With a final round TKO over a noticably bigger Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao earned his 7th title in seven different weight classes.

Manny Pacquiao

Throughout his career the little fighter from The Philippines demolished the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton, the Mexican trio of Juan Manuel Márquez, Marco Antonio Barrera and Érik Morales and finally Miguel Cotto on Saturday night.

“It’s an honor to win a seventh title,” Pacquiao said. “It’s history for me and more importantly, a Filipino did it.”

In his home country Pacquiao is more popular than the President and for that Time Magazine recognized him on its list of most influential people for 2009.

And although he’s without a doubt one of the best fighters ever and a sure bet Hall of Famer, the question remains is he the pound-for-pound best? Or is it the undefeated flashy American boxer, Floyd Mayweather.

Often times given the difference in weight classes in sports like boxing comparing fighters is like comparing apples to oranges however no such hurdle exist here.  Only money and circumstance.  Although a Pacquiao/ Mayweather bout is the fight that all boxing fans would love to see, Floyd’s absence from the fight on Saturday suggest otherwise.  We may always be left wondering.

So who do you think would win in a fight between Floyd and Manny?

Pacquiao hands down. This little dude is tough! He’s proven time & time again that he can win and is not afraid of a challenge. Floyd is also a great fighter but his arrogant ways will catch up to him soon. You can’t be the best if you don’t respect the industry you represent. Floyd’s proven he is the better fighter throughout his career but to say he’d beat Manny….NO. And besides, if you saw Mayweather’s last fight then you know his next fight will be against Shane Moseley lol. PacMan is gonna have to wait.

Pacquiao is the truth! From a true boxing fan’s standpoint, It’s great to see such a great fighter in his prime, making history!
I would not count out Mayweather, tho. He is just as good as Pacquiao, I think. Even though he is arrogant and can be clownish, you can’t question his work ethic. I would actually pay to see that fight!
Big ups to Cotto for fighting like a man!

Cotto exposed the blueprint that Floyd will need to beat Manny. He didn’t execute the gameplan though. Its all about the Jab. Manny can hit you from all angles but if you keep him frustrated with a stiff jab like Floyd is capable of giving it will be a long day for Manny. Trust me on this one. Floyd in 12. Fights gotta happen soon though because Floyd is getting up there in age.

True. So true. Pac was gettin hit alot. Face was all messed up in the interview after the fight on ESPN. I had to watch the fight twice. Pac is fast but i still believe Floyd is faster. Plus, Floyd will slip alot of Pacs punches. Pac would have to follow Floyd around which would lead to Pac opening himself up and getting caught.

He also said he had to play like he wasnt hurt by Cotto but in reality he was. Couldnt give Cotto reassurance/confidence. Cotto got sloppy. Floyd doesnt do that. Nonetheless, it would be the fight of the year in my book.

Exactly even with a slower Cotto you could see Pac getting a little frustrated with chasing him around the ring. That’s all he’ll do against Floyd.

Even Though Manny is the man right now, I would have to go with Floyd. Don’t get me wrong, Manny is a GREAT fighter. But to me Floyd’s speed is the difference. His speed is mind-blowing. Manny is fast, but not Mayweather fast. Floyd in 12… I just don’t think Manny can run up and stay in Floyd’s sh!t, like the way he did Cotto.

Floyd in 12. Defense wins championships just like in any other sport and Floyd has the best defense in the game. He will hit Manny way hard than Cotto did. I wouldn’t be surprised if Floyd knocked him out.
