The reason he gave was that Mike's vitiligo was causing serious blotching in the skin and they wanted to make it all even. MJ was basically brown with white blotches all over. So the doctor used cream to lighten the dark skin to match the light blotches. So MJ DID bleach his skin but not because he wanted to, but because he had to to look presentable.
