Monkey For Sale!!!
Rumor has it that some good ol hidden racism is for sale.
I’m not one who normally yells out RACSIM!, but this one definitely raised not one, but both of my eyebrows. It is alleged that Costcos, the Sam’s like bulk store, is selling a baby doll, a black baby doll called My Lil Monkey. Now obviously the doll comes with a monkey, but pairing the two together is just a bit to much. What do you think; Racism, a simple mistake or a hoax?

oh, its gonna keep happening. told yall. as long as Obama in the “white” house, this kinda stuff is gna happen. it honestly dont surprise me at all.
Why not just call it “My little nigga”. This is blatently racist. We should have a white doll dressed in dirty clothes and holding a pack of cigarettes and 40 and call it “My little trailer park trash”. Please, please, someone tell me I’m over reacting….then tell me where you live.
Going more to the heart of the matter, a Caucasian cavewoman doll with a club and bear skin(you know there were no Black cave people. At that time, we were building great cities and civilizations…see Nubians, Egyptians).
You know what’s interesting Emerson, everything starts with an idea right. First, you have an idea, then the planning stage, testing stage, then on to the implementation stage. Is someone trying to tell me that during all the various stages no one was able to foresee this product being an issue with people from a specific group. I don’t want to sound paranoid but after the poing I just made, it seems intentional.
You’re absolutely right! There are too many people in meetings, going over every little detail of this product for someone to not say, “uh, guys, something doesn’t feel quite right about this.”

On a related sidenote, I got the Disney movie, the Jungle Book (the original animated movie) for my little ones to watch this weekend…. of all the animals (who talked, of course) the monkeys (with king orangutan) were black. The king orangutan was this jazzy, slick talking, obviously black guy who did this nightclub-like routine….this movie was made in what, the 40′s?….the kind of surprising thing is that it was Disney…then again, why should that surprise me?….you have to see it to see how insulting it really is.
Bro, my son has that exact same movie and I know exactly what you are talking about. It’s the part where baloo dresses up like a monkey to save Mogley. It’s jaw dropping because all of the monkeys voices are “black voices”. You are correct when you say “nightclub-like routine”. The animators gave the “Monkeys/Orangutan” a chuckin and jivin air to them, the “Monkeys/Orangutans” were baffoons in every sense of the word. It would be interesting to hear what other folks from Highbrid Nation would think of that movie because it was definitely indicative of that period.

Now I’m going to go through my daughter’s movie collection and watch it tonight. I’ve seen it many times growing up but I remember bits & pieces of it vaguely…I’ll comment on this again tomorrow fellas.
Urban thought, I just finished checking out the link you posted and there is no denying it, Disney has made Billions of dollars off of racial stereotypes. No joke y’all, that site really bothered/hurt me because as a 34 year old man I remember all of those Disney cartoons growing up, and to findout I as a black man was the butt of many of the jokes. It was disturbing!!! I Look forward to reading what you guys have to say tomorrow!!! B.E.B. I’m going to do the same tonight!!!
That is down right intentional! Wow I can’t believe that they’d think that was ok to put in a movie. How many other times they’ve gotten away with sneaking racial things in their movies?

My question is, is there a white version of the doll also? If there is, it kinda dilutes the arguement.
I agree with you Gleb. I’ve looked around online to see if there was a white version and came with nothing. I am going to make a trip to Costco to see if: 1) this toy is true and 2) see if there is other races of this toy. I will keep you all posted.

It’s definitely Racism. It’s common knowledge to know that a lot of White People look at Black and Asian babies as “pets”. We all grow up, we don’t stay little cute “Monkey” babies for long, which seems to be the way we are viewed by certain people. That product is a damn shame.
Anytime you have a black guy and a white guy on a T.V comercial the white guy is ALWAYS protrade as a dumb ass,simpleton,etc. There’s one commercial (I believe it’s a Priceline commercial) for hotels. It has a Black guy laying in a bathtub full of water,while two white guys have drinking straws in there mouths (there at the foot of the tub blowing bubbles into the water so he can have a hot tub …..Could you imagine if that was a White guy in the tub , having two Black guys on there knees blowing bubbles (WITH STRAWS)INTO his tub water so he can have a hot tub .Alot of people would come unglued!!!!There’s another commercial (I Believe it’s for Brinks Security)they supply security systems for busines and Homes…..I’ve seen atleast 4 to 5 T.V. commercials of there,s . All the burblers in there commercials are white. There’s one particuler commercial that shows three or four homes being broke into ,and all the men are white.What if that same commercial had nothing but black men in it? All Im saying is were both reading way to much into things,or both sides see things that aggrevate the HELL out of us
