‘Ignore the bankbook’: First Lady Shares Advice on landing a Good Man in ‘Glamour’
Says: “Cute’s good. But cute only lasts for so long” Thoughts Nation?
In the upcoming December issue of Glamour magazine, Michelle Obama is crowned their “Woman of the Year.“ In the accompanying interview conducted by CBS anchor Katie Couric, the First Lady, whom so many African American females have viewed as the quintessential black woman fills readers in on the secret to how they can get and keep a good man like her husband.
“Cute’s good. But cute only lasts for so long, and then it’s, ‘Who are you as a person?’” the First Lady advise. “Don’t look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart. Look at the soul. When you’re dating a man, you should always feel good. … You shouldn’t be in a relationship with somebody who doesn’t make you completely happy and make you feel whole.”
Mrs. Obama married the President back in 1992 and warns that too often women expect too much from men and haven’t taken care of themselves first.
“I have always tried to put my kids first, and then put myself a really close second, as opposed to fifth or seventh,” she says. “One thing that I’ve learned from male role models is that they don’t hesitate to invest in themselves.”
There is clearly no groundbreaking stuff here but many black women refusing to listen to each others advice perhaps the woman whose words ring gospel in the African American community might make the difference. From a man’s perspective I think she hit on it. Its all about partnership right fellas? I think the relationships we see go bad sistas enters the situation with far too many expectations of changing their man. When the road gets rough, out come the criticisms, he aint sh*t, he aint got a good job etc, etc. Understanding and setting realistic goals for your relationship early on are key. That’s my relationship advice for the day. But don’t take my word for it
I don’t have a great track record. WHAT SAY YOU NATION?
Glamour’s December issue hist newsstands Nov. 10.
