The fact that “liberal” talking head, Marc Lamont Hill got fired from his post at FOX News is no news at all but perhaps you weren’t aware of just how he learned of his dismissal.

According to Think Progress, the Columbia University professor first learned of his pink slip status via Google Alert on his mobile phone. Granted technology has transformed how information is disseminated but via Google Alert?

Most recently we’ve heard urban myths of cowardly employers terminating employees via text message or worst yet Facebook but a news alert sent to your email?  That’s low.  At least with the other avenues you’re the first to know, Hill found out simultaneously as the world did.  It reportedly wasn’t until several hours later, that a representative from News Corp., which owns FOX officially simply confirmed his dismissal.  I’m guessing there are probably some legal loose ends to be tied up here.

“I haven’t had any thorough conversations with anyone.” Hill said about the firing.

Hill represented one of the few liberal voices on the right wing leaning “news” network.  Though no official reason has been publicly announced, there are rumors that shareholders were concerned that Hill had “reputation of defending cop-killers and racists.”

While some will be quick to jump to race it was obviously his political views that did him in.  Hill has a PhD so I’m sure he was aware that any pot stirring at the ultra conservative FOX would quickly spell his demise.  He’ll have no issues filling in the gaps for his income I’m sure.
