Bloombergs Declaration to Throw The Book at Plaxico Deflects, Hits Lil Wayne
Plaxico (via Bloomberg) Costs Lil Wayne Jailtime on Tour Bus Gun Charge
It looks like Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s “Plaxico precedent” may have claimed another one. Earlier this week we told you how scientist were giddy about the opportunity to test their new DNA testing toy out to determine if Lil Wayne indeed was in possesion of the loaded handgun found on his tour bus. Realizing he wasn’t escaping the wrath of science, Lil Wayne pled guilty yesterday an “attempted” possession of a loaded illegal firearm.
The charge stems from an incident occuring on July 22, 2007 in which New York City police pulled over his tour bus after it left the venue, citing that they’d both seen and smelled marijuana smoke when it was parked. Upon searching the vehicle they discovered a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun in a Louis Vutton bag that police observed Lil Wayne having possesed. DNA evidence tied him to the weapon and New York prosecutors say that the rapper wasn’t licensed to carry a weapon in the state of New York.
So! This is the same city in which just over a month ago, Hip Hop influenced football star, Plaxico Burress was sentenced to 2 years in prison in large part due to the Mayor Bloomberg stating publicly he would like to see him get the maximum allowable. No one was hurt except the defendant in that case which is similar to Lil Wayne’s predicament minus the discharge. While Bloomberg is unlikely to again go on record about this case, given the public backlash he received for speaking out of turn, the precedent however has been set.
If even the least bit of differential is sensed in prosecuting given the high profile nature of the case, drama will ensue especially when you examine the tale of the tape. Burress had no previous felony convictions while Wayne still faces felony charges stemming from a January 2008 arrest at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Arizona for possessing 29 grams of cocaine, 105 grams of marijuana, 41 grams of ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus not to mention he’s admitted drug addictions- to cough syrup, which contains promethazine and codeine, an opiate.
The judge will take all of this into account during sentencing and will likely rule harshly. Lil Wayne is likely looking at extensive time similar if not more than what Plaxico received on a plea deal. Might want to stock up on that music (if you like it) because it could be the last you hear of it for quite some time.

Two totally different cases. I don’t think he does a day in jail for this. Also, I don’t know this to be fact, but, can judge take into account another case, when he has not gone to trial and found guilty in that case? If found not guilty, he can then appeal the sentencing on this case, I would think.
Both illegally trafficked non-licensed loaded weapons in New York City. The mayor has set a standard for how high profile gun cases are to be dealt as to send a message to the kids carrying in the street.
The difference is that Wayne’s gun was in a bag, inside the tour bus. He shot nobody with it. Plax had the gun in his waistband, inside the club, gun went off….sure, he illegally had a gun in NY, but the differences in the cases get him off with probation/community service/fine…..
He’s facing a year plus…plax got basically the maximum allowable by law and I’m sure lil wayne will get something similar. He’s doing time.
if you kno you goin to that particular state, obtain the license ahead of time. go concealed if you have to and have copies of those licenses any/everywhereso youre legit. simple.
There are no concealed weapons licenses in New York City unless you’re law enforcement.
Damn this is crazy…I don’t know what the outcome will be…it could go both ways but since Plaxico got jail time I think Weezy will get some too.
Going to jail for a year+ is like the new cool thing to do as part of your rap resume. To be honest it seems like the only time a rapper could get much needed rest.
