Wyclef To Pen Memoirs. From Humble Haitian Beginings To Grammys and Philanthropy
Yet-titled book will be published by HarperCollins and co-written by Rolling Stone’s Anthony Bozza
Today, Wyclef Jean and It Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, announced plans to publish the Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum musician’s memoir. The memoir will be co-authored with bestselling author and Rolling Stone writer Anthony Bozza, who co-authored Eminem’s You Say I Am.
According to the press release, the memoir will chronicle Wyclef’s childhood in La Serre in Haiti, his migration to Brooklyn, NY and his rise into pop culture as a member of The Fugees and beyond. He’ll detail his conflict between being a preacher’s son playing music in church and being a young rapper trying to fit in with his peers. Wyclef will also discuss his global philanthropic works, especially in his native country through his organization Yele Haiti which he founded in 2005.
“I am so happy to share my journey which took me from the hut to the projects to the mansion,” said Wyclef Jean. “I am just getting started and feel so excited about It Books publishing the early stories from my life.”
Earlier this morning, I was reluctantly criticizing Master P. for his lack of sophistication with his philanthropic game. Although he’s a mess I did however recognize him as one of the formost leaders in doing good works within the Hip Hop community. We’d have to put Wyclef in that category as well although most of the money he raises and deeds are earmarked for his Haitian homeland. I think for Haitian Americans of the Hip Hop generation this could be a very inspiring book.
