TMZ: Nas Owes $2.5 Mil in Back Tax on top of $44K in Alamony/ Child Support
I’m not sure I’m buying this. Someone’s calculator might not be working right.
Yo what’s really good with rappers not paying their taxes? Is this the new ‘street cred’ proof of performance that I’m not aware of? We were all in awe as an admittedly smoked out and visibly abscent minded Method Man was chased down by the tax man to the tune of … But it looks like after making a stop in Staten Island, the IRS headed over to Queens to collect on Nas.
It looks like Kelis and the child support won’t be the only one’s with their hand out as Nas collects on pay day. According to TMZ, Nas is owes an astonishing $2.5 million unpaid taxes and penalties from just two years (2006 and 2007.) So add that to the recently tallied $44,000 child and spousal support mandate recently handed down in as part his bitter divorce.
Wow! That’s a lot of money in tax. I’m going to have to question TMZ’s source on that. In order owe $2.5 Million you have either just won the lotto or are FILTHY rich…I don’t think Nas is either. While I won’t doubt the emcee could have cleared 7 figures, its a tall task to tax someone that much over a two year span and seeming as though those years weren’t that long ago, the penalties and interest couldn’t be that significant. I’ma do some digging but I wouldn’t be surprise if a conflicting report surfaces sometime soon.

Perhaps this is because he didn’t file taxes. The tax man likes to inflate what you owe until you file the proper paperwork — and then the number often decreases. I’ve always found it amusing how the penalties are always more than the interest.
.
Side note: When they find that they owe you money they actually pay it with interest, although not as high of a rate as they would charge you.
Word…I didn’t know that. Cool so when I get a refund next time I’m going to let it marinate before I file. Hmmmm…maybe that’s not such a good idea.
