SOUND OFF: Should Rush Limbaugh Be Allowed To Own An NFL Team?
How much should his public opinions be accounted in the approval of his ownership?
Rush Limbaugh loves to be in the middle of controversy so he shouldn’t have expected less when he announced he was part of the Dave Checketts (St. Louis Blues- NHL) group bidding for ownership of the St. Louis Rams football team.
Its no surprise that some NFL players, notibly African-American have already gone on record as saying they would never work for Rush Limbaugh, should he become a co-owner of the St. Louis Rams. His history has done less than endear himself to the demographic. Most notably as a commentator for ESPN in 2003, Limbaugh was fired after he suggested that Philadelphia Eagles QB, Donovan McNabb, was overrated simply because of his color.
But perhaps the friction stems from his beliefs having nothing to do with Football. The conservative yakkie has publicly stated he hopes President Barack Obama would fail. In a league of predominantly black athletes somehow I feel those opinions aren’t shared by many nor the country that resoundingly elected Obama as their first black president.
But despite all that and personal opinions aside, should Limbaugh be allowed to own an NFL franchise. Keep in mind, this is the same league that necessitated instituting an Affirmitive-Action type of hiring practice dubbed the “Rooney Rule” to offset the coaching and management disparities in the sport. Remember this is the same league in former Washington Redskins owner George Preston Marshall, an open racist refused to hire a black player for almost 20 years after the league integrated in 1946.
Should an investors political views be taken into account when approving his or her ownership? SOUND OFF!

On the surface, what would be the difference between working for this “owner”, as opposed to any of the other “owners” in the NFL? As long as the checks get deposited biweekly…
Well, there is a difference. It is the working environment that the players are going to be subjected to. The people who are going to be in daily contact with the players, whom the owner has a direct relationship with, are probably going to share his views and sentiments. Thus, the working environment is going to be hostile. Also, the media is going to be salivating, just waiting for juicy quotes, and they are going to get them. It’s going to be madness. This straight up bigot, now the “owner” of an organization, where the money makers are mostly black…getting paid millions….it’s a recipe for disaster. He would not be able to go into that locker room without fearing for his life! Let’s do it!!!
He’s a fuckin Bigot piece of shit wit a radio show,Would u want Don imus involved with the WNBA….Ok same thing we don’t need the racist Rush in the NFL cum lets do the right thing!!!
Yes, he should be allowed to own an NFL team and YES, the players should be allowed to choose not to play for him. Most minority owners are quiet but with Jay-Z, and all the celeb owners of the dolphins it hasn’t always worked out that way. I’m sure Rush wouldn’t be a silent partner so I understand all the backlash. His show is still on the air, he will be blatantly profiting off of Black people while NOT contributing to our overall place in society by bashing on his show. There is just something fundamentally wrong with that, but rich people have done that to poor people and in our history White people have done that to Black people, so it must feel normal to him.
Interesting…comment of the day.
Yes, very interesting. There is a difference between will be and should be……. there are many things that are, as skinnygirluver pointed out, but shouldn’t be. Regardless to how we feel, that is the way they are, tho.
.
Irrelevant now, since we found out last night that Dave Checketts (the same Checketts that as MSG president ran the Knicks into the ground, before handing off to a bigger fool with more money) killed it before it ever got off the ground…..I can respect White people who are about their money even more than they are about their skin color…when Black people are like that (Robert Johnson, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods) they get crucified by other Black people, tho….fair? … rambling, my bad….
It just seems silly to me that people think that just because they don’t like what he says, that should keep him from buying a piece of a team. The NFL isn’t an elite honor club for people with the best moral characters, its a business. This is just like what they were trying to do to Vick. People need to stop standing in the way of other people making money just because they don’t like them.
