Newark Mayor, Cory Booker To Visit ‘Tonight Show’ Challenge Conan O’Brian on recent jokes.

Brick City’s mayor intends to “put on for his city”

Corey Booker

Newark, NJ STAND UP!  This Friday the city’s mayor, Cory Booker will be a guest on “The Tonight Show,” where he is expected to take on Conan O’Brien for making disparaging jokes about “Brick City’s” reputation.  A reputation, Cory Booker has fought feverishly to change.  His plight has been documented in the documentary for the Sundance Channel, “Brick City” which Evorgleb featured a few weeks back.

So you can understand why Booker would get a little sensitive when O’Brien joked about Booker’s new health care plan for Newark – saying it consisted of a bus ticket out of town.  However seeing it as an opportunity to draw much need attention to the city’s revitalization he fired back with a more playful YouTube response in which he banned O’Brien from Newark Airport.

Naturally, Conan had his own response…

Finally, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton played diplomat and playfully settled the matter.

But now with the spotlight squarely on him, Booker will not only use his time to continue the joke but to show the advancements in the once impoverished city. Booker is expected to point out the city’s reduction in shootings and homicides during his first term as Newark mayor. With an unemployment rate still hovering at 14.7 percent the appearance could draw much needed attention to the city.
