[RANT] Obama Wins Undeserved Nobel Peace Prize Amid Designs of War In Afghanistan
Suprise announcement produces even more pressure for the President. Couldn’t come at a worse time.
I try and catch my fill of both National and Local (New York) news while rushing to the office every morning and like many of you who follow the same routine I was rather shocked to see that President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. I could be wrong but behind Dr. King I believe he’s the only other black man to win the award (Mandela is African) and only the third sitting president.
According to the official announcement the award was given to the President for his stance on “hope for a better future” and striving for nuclear disarmament. “Very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said in a citation.
I’m sorry but that’s horseshit. I believe in Barack Obama as a politician, voted for him, stand behind him and all but the worlds’ gotta stop giving this guy fellatio. The man’s been in office less than nine months and has been very underwhelming in his foreign policy. From the early stages of his campaign he was hailed by not only Americans but the world as the next coming. We’ve set the man up for a huge failure. With so much on his plate this puts increasing weight on his shoulders. I wasn’t in the room obviously but I wouldn’t doubt if there were some boos and whistles as the The Norwegian Nobel Committee made the announcement in Oslo.
I’m no expert on the award but the likes of Dr. King, Mandela, Former President Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev were all former Nobel laureates because of the lifetime of dedication to peace. For the Committee to choose Obama based on his promise and 9 sub-par at best months as President in my mind severely undermines the integrity of the award. To use a Hip Hop analogy I harken it to the watering down of the Source Magazine‘s 5 mic award when Lil Kim won the award for her album “The Naked Truth” in 2005. The gaff would eventually lead to the demise of the recognized hip hop bible.
Secondly and perhaps more importantly how does a man win ANY peace prize let alone a Nobel as he’s contemplating strategies for a war in in Afghanistan. I’m not huge on foreign policy. I think most of the time the intentions abroad are more deep rooted in ideologies way above my pay grade but doesn’t this announcement pump the breaks a bit for efforts in Afghanistan? How can you now send the 40,000 troops to the country after the world just basically recognized you as the pope of peace?
I guess I should have started the post with a congratulations because its a very high honor. Its just that I can’t remember a time where I thought receiving an award was detrimental to a mans ability to function effectively but I guess there’s a first for everything.

Well, they gave Henry Kissinger the Peace Prize while he was orchestrating the mass slaughter of Cambodian civilians, so the committee obviously has a sense of humor.
.
I’ve noticed this week that the “new” has worn off the Obama presidency. The center is mad because he’s spending so much money and the left is now mad because he isn’t following through with some of his simpler campaign promises.
.
In the past week we’ve had both Saturday Night Live and The Daily Show go after him for backing down on any number of promises; and now that Highbrid has come out with this editorial, I think we can officially say that the honeymoon is over.
Its not his fault. I just want to make sure he has the best opportunity to succeed. I don’t care how he does. It MVP awards never helped AROD win a World Series its only a distraction and puts more weight on his shoulders much as the Nobel will put on Obama.
.
Do you agree though?
MK Gandhi (not Ghandi) never won the Nobel Prize
You’re absolutely right. My apologies. I will edit the post.
It’s an award. All awards are flawed from entertainment to academic, it is not a true reflection of accomplishment….my brother and I had a discussion about this(awards) in general and I don’t put as much value in them as other people seem to do. Bottomline, he doesn’t deserve the award for all the people that believe the Nobel Prize is an esteemed award. Accomplishments speak for themselves, awards are just bullsh#t, to me(positive or negative) Nothing is going to top being the first Black President anyway.
A great example of that is MVP award when A-Rod wins it but he’s teammates don’t even like him.
That was in the past. I think coming “clean” with the steroids lifted a weight off his shoulders because he was just waiting to be caught, and the stress affected his performance…like a parolee who keeps looking over his shoulder fot his P.O. But this year, he has played like he is a free man…I’m happy for him.
I think the award going to President Obama reflects a couple of sentiments. First its a complete sigh of relief and congrats from the world namely Europe (this is a European based award) that George Bush and Dick Cheny the Guys who dubbed the terms “Shock and Awe,Axis of evil, and lets not forget my favorite Weapons of Mass Destruction” are no longer around to continue their war mongering and that’s due to the the campaign the President ran and the American people voting him into office.
Secondly It reflects the hope for a peaceful future that Barack Obama represents. Granted he does have 2 wars going on, he inherited those wars and although General Mcchrystal did request 40k more troops, Obama hasn’t signed off on it and their is a very strong argument against it. BTW the #1 reason we have to send so many troops to Afghanistan now is b/c the effort was severely underfunded and under supplied for 8 years.
I do agree with you about the continous whoppage given to the President by everyone,
but as Malcolm pointed out the Honey moon is winding up and I hope everyone starts holding the president and his lame ass Democratic party accountable for the promises he made during his campaign and his platform of “Change”. Receiving the Nobel Peace Prize does give the President something to live up to. Legacy is very important and I’m certain he doesn’t want to go down in history as the person who won the Nobel Peace Prize and carried on 2 long wars.
Explain why Mandela being African doesn’t make him Black?
“Explain why Mandela being African doesn’t make him Black?”
I thought the same thing when I read it.
.
I agree with much of the rant and the comments from readers. I look at the Nobel Peace Prize much like I look at Rhodes Scholarships. Do people know who Rhodes was? He was a mass murderer and colonizer! That is like Hitler having a community service award named for him…well, he did try to do good for the Aryan race…
Speaking of Hitler. Someone told me Hitler was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize also! Of course he didn’t receive it though. But just the fact that Hitler was considered is enough to lead someone to believe that these awards arent always given to the most deserving person.
I think hitler thought of himself as the prince of piece. Just like FOX News sees themselves as fair and balanced.
It makes him black just not African American. He’s not from America.
