Beyonce is Billboard’s ‘Woman of the Year’
Says up next…an Oscar.
At Billboard’s annual Women In Music luncheon held at New York’s Pierre Hotel, Beyonce was honored as the Billboard’s 2009 Woman of the Year.
“It is theoretically possible someone on some other planet had a better year than Beyonce,” Billboard’s editorial director Bill Werd quipped as he introduced her. “But I’m not buying it.”
Beyonce accepted the award, remarking “I am the luckiest woman in the world.”
The event closed with heart-rending renditions of Beyonce’s hits “Halo” and “Single Ladies,” performed by Staten Island grade schoolers, the P.S. 22 Chorus.
I can honestly say that although I’m by no means a huge fan of Bey, homegirl did work over the last 12 months. She should serve as an inspiration and example to those who want anything in the entertainment industry. You can’t get it unless you hustle. As famous and esteemed as she has become she wants more and is willing to work hard to acheive it. Maybe her husband should take a page out of her book.
So after accomplishing just about as much as one could possible accomplish in music, what’s up next for Mrs. Carter? During a Q&A with Oprah’s butt buddy, Gayle King, she was probed about her relationship with husband Jay-Z, her position as a role model for young women, and her goals for the future. “I really want to win an Oscar,” she revealed.
I don’t think she’s a great actress yet by any stretch but with her work ethic I would putt the accomplishment past her. Congrats Bey.

It would have to be a real bad year in Hollywood for her to ever be nominated for an Oscar.
