Fat Joe Teams w/ K-Mart & Sears To Drop Low Budget ‘Blackout’ Sneakers
And no the kicks don’t cost 50 Cents
Lets face it, I don’t care who you are you could use an extra couple of dollars in your pocket. Over the past couple of years its become fashion chic for celebrities such as Stephon Marbury and Al Harrington to release price conscious footwear with their Starbury and Protégé kicks respectively.
Well Fat Joe has inked a deal for a signature sneaker that will follow in the same vain. Like Harrington, the Bronx emcee has partnered with retail giants K-Mart and Sears to launch an affordable sneaker called the Protégé Blackout which will drop appropriately on Black Friday.
“You know I own thousands of pairs of sneakers and I’m a huge collector” Fat Joe told theshoegame.com. “But I wanted my sneaker to be something the kids could actually afford. Due to these hard economic times, a lot of kids cannot afford $200 sneakers. So kids can buy them themselves. They don’t even have to worry about their mom or pops buying them for $34.99.”
The announcement comes just one day after 50 dissed the Bronx emcee’s upcoming album via a humorous video post and phony breaking news story stating he was hospitalized for “noise poisoning” after listening to the album. The shoe release could stand to help to promote the upcoming mysterious project which obviously is in desperate need of buzz. “Jealous Ones Still Envy 2″ (J.O.S.E. 2) is slated for an October 6th debut and is Joe’s 9th studio album. None the less, Joe, an avid sneaker collector hopes the project can give back to the community by providing an affordable sneaker line for young adults.
“It’s unbelievable that you can pay $34.00 for this quality of a dope style sneaker. So when I sit down and see what the materials cost, I would have paid $150 for these. I’ve paid $10,000 for a pair of sneakers. But it really only took them $30 to make the sneaker.”
