Diddy on the ‘Last Train To’ Interscope. Leaving Bad Boy?
Now in bed with Interscope his relationship with the record label he made famous is tenuous at best
Billboard has confirmed that Sean “Diddy” Combs will end his exclusive relationship with Warner Music Group/Atlantic Records at the end of September. According to reports, Diddy has inked a new lucrative deal with Interscope Records, the label that is releasing his upcoming “Last Train to Paris” album. So what does this all mean? Well nothing is official yet but although the Bad Boy label its current roster and catalog will remain with Warner, Diddy is now in bed with a new chick in Interscope for his personal career.
“Now that the term of the Warner deal has ended, I have elected to accept an opportunity to move my recording career and future label venture to another company,” Combs said in a statement.
This announcement is essentially the writing on the wall. Though the terms of Diddy’s relationship with Interscope aren’t completely public there are many credible reports that say he could be developing a new record company similar to Bad Boy for Interscope essentially abandoning the once home of the late great Notorious B.I.G. I guess in the end its all about money right? The one album Diddy released through the WMG agreement, 2006’s “Press Play,” has sold 703,000 units to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
