Following Drake Signing, Young Money Scoops Top Female Rap Talent, Nicki Manaj

Posted by Juan

Female rapper’s patience paid dividends. Forgoing other less lucrative offers Young Money deal lets her maintain 360 rights.

Nicki Manaj

Though its barely been a couple months since Lil Wayne and his Young Money outfit signed the highly sought after free Agent, Drake, it appears they’re not done yet.  Earlier today Nicki Manaj, one of the rising female rapping talents officially signed to label after passing up several previous offers in order to build a solid grassroots fan following.

Manaj’s overtly sexy persona and not-to-subtle Lil Kim likeness has aided the entertainer in her growing popularity.  But it was her critically acclaimed “Beam Me Up Scotty” mixtape which featured Gucci Mane, Busta Rhymes, Bobby Valentino, new label mate Drake and boss Lil Wayne that caught the attention of music industry heads and sparked a bidding war for the entertainer’s services.

“I am honored to have Nicki Minaj as Young Money’s First Lady,” Lil Wayne so eloquently asserted.  “She is a star.”

Nicki Minaj on the other hand had some more enlightening commentary.

“To say I’m excited would be an understatement. It’s validation. It’s proof. It’s empowerment. I represent every little girl in a hood near you. To everyone that supported me two years ago when I was on underground mix-tapes and DVDs and to the people that only caught on two weeks ago, I say thank you. Be proud of yourself. You’ve given girls all around the world the permission to change the face of female rap.”

Minaj’s signing punctuates an exciting summer-long bidding spree which would eventually force Young Money/Universal into structuring a unprecedented contract for the Fem-cee in which she retains and owns all of her 360 rights (merchandising, sponsorships, endorsements, touring and publishing.)

Early word is that Minaj is prepping a debut release in early 2010 which will be distributed through Universal Motown but she just signed today so she has at least three album delays to sit through before identifying a realistic release.

If female, you must act like a ho, and rap about how tight and juicy your shyt is and how good you can lube a n*gga! ok, got it!
