BEEF 2.0: Q-Tip Launches Anti-Mayor Michael Bloomberg Campaign Via Twitter
Cites his “manipulation of the law”, and his lack of support for the poor and middle class.
Although admittedly I don’t spend as much time on Twitter as I’d like or used to, one of the very first celebrities I followed was Q-Tip (@QtipTheAbstract)
Although he’s not as active sending erroneous tidbits every five seconds as lets say a Diddy (iamdiddy) his tweets are always an interesting read. During a series of tweets last week however he went IN on New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
QtipTheAbstract: Don’t vote for bloomberg if u are a humanitarian.
QtipTheAbstract: Don’t vote for bloomberg if love your quality of life
QtipTheAbstract: How bloomberg deals with homeless in nyc http://bit.ly/ht6TL
QtipTheAbstract: NYC Don’t let BLoomberg turn the city into the office for rich folk and kick out the middle class/poor folks.
QtipTheAbstract: If you are a true blue new york jew DON’T vote for bloomberg!
QtipTheAbstract: Anti-bloomberg operation in effect!
QtipTheAbstract: Bloomberg’s quality of life campaign ONLY looks out for the quality of life of the WEALTHy
QtipTheAbstract: Bloombergs manipulation of the law to enable him to run for a 3rd term is an act of Tyranny!
Curious about the cyber onslaught, I replied to Tip to find out why all the venom so suddenly. Though I didn’t receive a response as yet, he did explain his campaign that he calls the “Anti-bloomberg operation” to NewsDay, a Long Island New York newspaper.
“His viewpoint of New York City is from his East Side town house . . . his occasional jaunt to a neighborhood is when he has to go for political substance or [to] quell anger in a neighborhood,”
According to a Quinnipiac University poll published by the paper, 42% of registered voters agreed with Q-Tip and felt Bloomberg was out of touch with average New Yorkers. The venom, he goes on to say was fuelled by what he called an Bloomberg’s poor handling of the homeless. However the biggest reason is perhaps his decision to change the term-limits law to seek a third term, and the city council’s backing of his decision in what some critics say is an obvious move to extend their own political careers.
“That’s pretty egotistic in a way,” said Q-tip
Despite the Twitter campaign, Q-Tip who has never been a registered New York voters said he doesn’t dislike the mayor. He’s happy with the way he’s cleaned up the city’s parks and subways. As a fellow New Yorker I too believe the Mayor has done a great job from a management perspective. But I also have been frustrated with the mayor’s decision to basically change the law to keep himself in office. He’s always said that its in the best interest of city.
This has always been my major beef with authority. Whether its cops running red lights for no reason, abusing the powers of the sheild or politicians thinking they are the law rather than representing the interest of their consituency, it all boils down to respect.
As a private citizen I should feel you as my police officer or politican respect the same boundries, laws and standards up which I am upheld. You should only deviate from those boundries if no other options are available and do so with great humility. If I say decide I’m going to stay in my parking spot after the aloted time on the meter I get a fat ticket but Bloomberg gets to keep his coushy job as third most powerful man in the country because he says so? and there’s really nothing anyone can do. That’s injustice. Power currupts absolutely.

I used to believe that Mayor Bloomberg saw running the city a hobby. He put down his own money to win the seat and only takes a dollar a year as compensation. That being said, I believe he is now just looking to build on his legacy. It has nothing to do with actually improving the city for the less fortunate but rather making his future biography look better.
.
I only wonder if we all had the possibility to pay our way through the world’s political hurdles, would we do it or try to get ahead the hard way — sweat and tears.
I guess we do need to give him some props for saving the city on his salary by the way.
.
I agree. I think he ran to see if he could win. Bloomberg is a business man who has always been driven by challenges not politics hence why as a life-long Democrat he ran as a Republican. He’s not in line with any party platform, just his own agenda. That’s why he’ll run for President one day and although he might actually do a good job we shouldn’t vote for him.
Big UPS to Q-Tip for standing up for what he believes is right! Next thing I’d do, however, is go by a different name. A grown man calling himself “Q-Tip” … just doesn’t sound serious. I get dirt out of my ears with q-tips.
LINE OF THE DAY: A grown man calling himself “Q-Tip” … just doesn’t sound serious. I get dirt out of my ears with q-tips.
