Def Jam To Release ‘Blueprint’ Collectors Edition on BP 3 Date
Hoping to ride the coat tails of their former cash cow artist
Two weeks ago, news surfaced that Def Jam planned to throw shade on Jay-Z‘s September 11th Blueprint 3 album release date by putting out a repackaged Blueprint collector’s edition to coincide with new offering. The package will feateure a remastered copy of the Blueprint 1 &2 and other cool swag. Jay of course recently left the label and the announcement further ads fuel to the notion that the departure was not on the best of terms. Jay-Z’s new project will be released on his joint venture outfit Roc Nation and be distributed through Atlantic Records. Today The Rap-Up had an exclusive First Look at the cover art for the collectors edition.
While the move might appear to be a slight at the emcee, it also makes great business sense. Reports are that the album will be displayed in music stores (those that are left) and online as a package with the new project at a discounted price. In essence fans looking to beef up the Jay catalog will be strengthening Def Jam Soundscan.
