? Of The Day: What Do You Think Of Obama’s Health Care Plan?

Posted by Juan

Unrealistic or the dramatic risk we need to take?

Health Care Reform

The buzz in Washington these days is all about healthcare as President Obama‘s very radical Heath Care plan goes before congress for approval.  The president asserts that a better system is also essential to rebuilding our economy.  Though the plan is very aggressive and will ensure that millions of uninsured Americans at least get basic coverage, many contend that it is not only unrealistic but it will effect those who currently have a plan and may also put some of the established providers out of business.

According BarackObama.com his plan is designed to “make sure every American has access to high quality health care is one of the most important challenges of our time.”The plan is based upon three main principals.

Reform the health care system:

We will take steps to reform our system by expanding coverage, improving quality, lowering costs, honoring patient choice and holding insurance companies accountable.

Promote scientific and technological advancements:

We are committed to putting responsible science and technological innovation ahead of ideology when it comes to medical research. We believe in the enormous capacity of American ingenuity to find cures for diseases that continue to extinguish too many lives and cause too much suffering every year.

Improve preventative care:

In order to keep our people healthy and provide more efficient treatment we need to promote smart preventative care, like cancer screenings and better nutrition, and make critical investments in electronic health records, technology that can reduce errors while ensuring privacy and saving lives.

So what do YOU think based on what you’ve read hear and been hearing through the media?

Baby Boom is over, the opportunity for America to set this country up for life has passed. This is something that we all need to come to the realization about. Universal Health Care would’ve worked if it were paid by the Baby Boom generation, the system is set up to pay FOR the Baby Boom generation and the generations there after, it will bankrupt us. It’s simple mathematics, the older generation outnumbered us, if they paid then there would’ve been a surplus (taxes paid during the Clinton years). Our population is lower, no one wants to have kids anymore, we are too materialistic. The greatest resource a tax paying country can have is population. The United States is going to supplement our lack of reproduction by opening up immigration. I’m seeing more Asians and Hispanics then ever before, so the question is…will that make up for the time we wasted!? It could.

      1. I have been wondering if the math you describe is going to somehow offset by the consolidation of wealth that will also occur.
      .
With a decreasing population, the wealth of the baby boomers will go (via inheritance) to fewer and fewer people, creating a smaller but wealthier population.
      .
      2. I once did the math on the tax benefit of making all of the illegal’s legal. Once they’re legal, they’re “on the books” for taxes. Based on 75% employment earning minimum for 40 hours per week, the payroll taxes alone would be enough to fund the entire department of defense.

      • Juan says:

Damn I didn’t think of it that way. I’m seeing your point though. The death of the baby boomer will create an even more defined class system.
        .
I think your point about immigration is well founded. There is a correlation. With the Hispanic population growing and becoming more documented their contribution in payroll taxes will offset the growing cost of this expensive health care proposition. The question is when?

        • Malcolm says:

See, that’s what I can never get across to my harder-right friends.
          .
If they are starting the conversation with the assumption that the illegals are already using up our services and taking “our” jobs (which they do as the reason they are so upset), then we’re paying all the costs but getting none of the benefits.
          .
As such, making them legal will not cost another dollar (you’re already paying the services, right?) so it would be a net gain. They’re already doing the work, so there would be no net loss of jobs either.
          .
The problem is that their standing on the principle that “we can’t encourage illegal behavior” is in direct opposition to the reality that it’s impossible to find, round up and deport 10 million people.
          .
I agree, in general theory that we should not reward bad behavior; but since reality always wins in the end, it’s in our best interest to accept reality as it exists.

This is one of those choices btwn two lesser evils. This new plan is going to insure that more people have insurance but its going to cost Where as our current plan ensures that a lot of people dont have insurance and costs anyway and will probably bankrupt us.

    • Juan says:

Well my take is you can’t pay insurance if you’re not around when the invoice comes. As a business owner its important to keep our staff healthy so that they are around to help build your company. If they’re sick and can’t work they’re no good to you and in the end cost money, which diminishes the economy. Healthcare plays more a part in the economic downturn than one would think.
